3. Have shills comment one after the other to create an illusion of agreement on subjects most conservatives would not agree with.
4. Encourage anything that maintains the stereotype liberals have of conservatives. ( haters, prejudiced etc. -- if real freepers don't live up to the stereotype, put in shills to maintain it)
5. Encourage "feelings" not rational thought.
6. Bash Mexican/Islam/Arab/Blacks etc.
Boy you are right on the money. I've done a lot of time in rooms with controversial topics, and with Moderators who have been doing this for 4 or 5 years. These brave people, like Jim Robinson, who only desire to serve up the truth, often get harassed and terrorized on a personal level, by hackers and opponents of the Truth.
Their boards are regularly infiltrated by "shills". Often when forums are attacked, moderators get busy explaining the psychology and MO's of these "groups" of disruptors ask that posters refrain from responding.
And so, we then begin to see patterns, insightful, interesting articles on hot topics get trashed on the 2nd or 3rd post. Hardly time for the readers to digest and formulate a concise, meaningful reply. They want to interfere and intimidate those who might agree with possibly only a paragraph, or one statement of the post.
In good debate, one has to evaluate each statement for it's own worth. These vermin give away their close-mindedness when they, in the blink of an eye, disagree with each and every point that was made on whatever subject commented on.
And it also becomes obvious when "they" are having conversations with each other. They are nothing more than bullies that have found other bullies. Disinformation agents.
They sure get around.
They try to pit one side against the other in discussions that are not 2-SIDED. Getting to the truth is like making a good stew. Everyone uses different ingredients and methods. Some are valid and successful, some are not. If we just take the good and leave the rest, and become more informed, perhaps we can change someones mind or change or own in the process.
Many thanks to the people who devote all their time to keep their doors open for us.
(This post was written before this thread was started. I was hoping I would find another place to put it!) .
Arator doesn't sit back in a corner like you playing with yourself making snide comments about folks that you don't agree with. Arator tells his points eloquently.
LOL. I understand your ambivalence. Cowering conformity makes for a uniformly textured and bland gruel of a forum. Provocative (even if hated) posters like Rivero (and myself?) add spice and variety to the mix, transforming a thin and tasteless gruel of a forum into a hearty and satisfying stew, boiling hot with lively and interesting debate.
That's what the FR of old was like and it was a most intoxicating brew. It was compelling. Even irresistable.
I find the new FR are to be a dull dish indeed by comparison. It is now all too often repelling. And quite resistable.
Really? Who are the top 10?
Anyone else?
Michael Rivero once posted that I and another FReeper were literally conspiring by each posting an AP article about Pat Buchanan....he made a total vanity post about it and accused us of all sorts of nonsense - like we were 'behind the scenes' and that we 'planned' the threads. I don't remember if he 'named' us or not but I and the other person were the only people who posted the type of article he was 'talking' about! And....I like Pat!
Some of his posts were err, interesting but I certainly hope you didn't take them all seriously. And people who would lie and/or make up stories about conspiracys are not "valuable assets". He went WAY over the line after September 11th.
Yes, but comedy is so subjective. :-)
It is called is called assumption
I assume Arafat got banned?
If they can't stand the heat in the kitchen - there is a door out - and besides, this is Jim's site and he can have whatever he wants!! If they don't like it - they can go build their own site!!
You lucky dog!
Well, whether he did or not is not possible for me to judge for myself, as all his posts have been nuked.
I know this, though: Rivero was dead right about Waco, OKC, TWA 800, etc. He was an asset in the fight to expose the evils done by the federal government under Clinton.
I for one do not believe that the capacity of the federal government to do wicked things and lie about them, to manipulate the populous with dramatic events, and to play sick politics with the lives of innocents has diminished one wit under Bush. As such, we must remain ever vigilent. We still need Riveros to probe and ask the hard questions, even if they sometimes come up with answers we can't fully endorse of agree with. Maybe we need them now more than ever because of the tendency -- just like Democrats were with Clinton -- for Republicans to be anesthetized and oblivious to what evils are done when their own are in charge.
You really need to get a job!
...
It's getting too late
Is there ANY truth to this charge? Don't flame me, I'm just curious. I've not seen this charge be made and simply want to know if there's ANYTHING true about it? "Some have turned up alive"?? Seems to me that would be pretty big news...
And to the original writer of this article...Blow me. Compare President Bush to Hitler in my presence, and I'll kick your ass. Idiot.
