THE folks at Msnbc are talking to former Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Alan Keyes about hosting a 10 p.m. show up against Fox News' new hire, Greta Van Susteren. Meanwhile, Van Susteren, a lawyer before her O.J. Simpson commentary turned her into a CNN star, reportedly has penned an eight-page memo detailing CNN's demerits. She plans to keep the document secret as long as CNN doesn't try to paint her as an ungrateful traitor.

Let me try to explain. The debates are really to present the candidates to the American voters. They are NOT debates in the classical sense.
Gore lost votes because of his sighs, his smarmy attitude, and his bad make-up. He actually won the debate as far as words. Big deal.
I wanted to WIN. Principles are important, but if your candidate loses you will be living under someone else's principles. Plus, as I already state earlier in this thread, I thought Bush would be a great president. I trusted him, I thought him exceptionally honorable and decent, and I liked him.
Try as hard as I can, I do NOT like ALan Keyes. And most voters don't, either. His was a hopeless candidacy.
If you will point out where anyone said that Keyes had NEVER said a derogative word about Bush, as opposed to never saying a derogatory thing about PRESIDENT Bush, two different things, I might point out, I will be very surprised. Saying derogatory things about your opponent is the job of a candidate.
As you know, I don't always agree with Dr. Keyes' postions; but respect immensely his exquisite intellect, the ability to articulate with great clarity his thoughts and the strength of character to remain consistent.
A paid Keyes worker; right here on FR; told us ALL that if we didn't agree with Keyes' on stem cells that we were NOT moral.
Is that a good enough answer?
Care to provide a list of those who you know are 'his paid employees' whether they frequent these threads or not? Your post suggests there's a good number of them....how about 3?
Message to Alan: If you want name recognition, think about getting you name in the NY Times, Washgton Post, and on ABC, NBC, CBS. PmsNBC??? Bwahahaha! Who's getting their name mentioned in the above Liberal rags?? GWB. Even Bush's bad press is better than no press at all. You haven't got a prayer.
Really, Miss Marple, and who made you God. As far as I know there is a God to decide what is 'acceptable', and you are not him. In fact, this piece was published in the first half of March, and was based on an interview that probably occurred a few days earlier. Even in last year's ridiculously accelerated primaries, the majority of the delegates had not yet been picked, and so Keyes had not already lost.
Gosh, we actually agree. A lot of the Keyesters ARE bashing Bush, aren't they? :-)
As far as the Keyes, McCain, Bush debate, I do believe there was discussion at the time about whether the networks would carry it if Bush didn't show up, since he was the frontrunner. I don't have a source for that except for my memory, so you will have to take my word for it or not.
Should be, but remember the thought processes of a Keyester. There's even one here who insists on posting to people who never respond back. Now how pathetic is that?
Why do you feel it necessary to be insulting? You are winning no converts with your attitude.
As to your question about misreperesenting your other statement--Why don't you explain why you suggested that Alan Keyes would comment that Bush is worse than Hitler?
I know a lot about politics having been involved in it for more years than I care to think and I know a mean-spirited politician that is arrogant and overbearing when I see one and keyes fit that bill here in Oklahoma. The clip of him talking down to our State Rep was on the TV News that night!
Before OK, I hadn't thought too much one way or the other about keyes and had supported him being in the 1996 debates. Between his radio name calling of GW, his praise of Gore on the radio, his TV appearance on the news, and the articles here in Oklahoma, I learned to dislike the man. It is one thing to want to win, but when you are losing as much as he was, then you don't go around saying things that can be used by your party's opponent like Gore. Keyes and McCain were Gore's best friends but at least McCain went out and campaigned for Bush right after the convention. By the time keyes endorsed him it was almost time for the vote.
Tell me how many nasty things that President Bush said about keyes during the primaries! You won't find any, but you will after the last debate that Bush went over and hugged Keyes.
