[history]
IF NEWSPAPERS ARE indeed the first draft of history, Bill Clinton's chance for a favorable reappraisal of his presidency is in trouble.
His supporters have hoped that as time adds perspective, Clinton's personal peccadilloes will shrink in memory, while underappreciated accomplishments will grow in importance.

>> Certainly the ammoniac partisan atmosphere created by then Speaker Newt Gingrich and the Republican Congress contributed. <<
Yeah, let's blame those who hold the President of the United States accountable for committing felonies. The same felonies that land "ordinary" people in prison.
This kind of defense is so asinine.

You left out a word: "...the GLOBE'S mean republican statement rings true with alot of STUPIDAmericans."

Because to alot of the Republicans involved, she was the main issue. This was a way for them to win points with the religious right and shore up their religious base.

>> . . . and those who agreed to that sham of a Senate "trial" . . .<<
Up to and including:
TRENT LOTT
ARLEN SPECTRE
TED STEVENS
and my Senator
KAY BAILEY HUTCHISON

Well, you know what I was going to say.

Gratuitous and indefensible. No editor should let a line like that be slipped in without some sort of expansion on the thought. True, true. Moreover, a competent editor would have noted it should read 'ammoniacal' ....

I dont know about stupid, maybe uninformed is a better choice of words. Most Americans dont have the time nor interest to really follow politics, beacause alot of them (including myself) dont believe either party nor their government really has their best interests at heart. Now I think you will agree most of us here on FR, probably qualify as politics junkies. Therefore we pay much more attention than the average joe, who comes home from work and pops on the TV to get their news.

>> Im not saying that I agree with it, Im just saying that's the impression of many Americans.<<
Oh, really? Then why do most Americans, at least in the latest Gallup poll I saw, say Clinton SHOULD have been impeached? Huh????????
To: Hemingway's Ghost
The questions that will define the Clinton years are being formed. Is it really "why hadn't we done more", rather than "why didn't we do anything?" A few of the many questions to come:
How could Osama bin Laden and his band of murderous zealots have caught this nation so off guard? And, given bin Laden's past history of attacks against the United States, why hadn't we done more to destroy Al Qaeda?

Of course they say that now. He is out of office and neither hurt them nor help them, and Sept. 11th has made alot of folks wake up. The polls two years ago during the actual event, said he shouldnt be impeached.

Because it's easy to hate Clinton now that he's out of office and covered himself up with even more dirty laundry, like PardonGate, ClipFurnitureGate, TrashTheOfficeGate, etc.

The GOP made the mistake of focusing on the whole sexual pecadillo aspect. I disagree. The MEDIA focused on the sex in order to convince the American Public that it wasn't anything important, that the GOP shouldn't be nosing into the President's private life, etc. But from what I remember, the hearings tried to show the most important thing; his obstruction of justice and use of the govt. resources and personnel to cover up his crimes. Of course the Senate Repubs. read the papers and watched TV a little more than was good for them and 'weenied' out on the country. But x42 will NEVER be what he wished to be, a beloved former President. He'll only be remembered for helping himself to the perqs of office while letting the country slide into recession and war.

he knew the entire extent of the problem, he just wasn't about to rock the boat of his ratings."You are absolutely correct! Bill Clinton micromanaged everything; his department heads were people he could manipulate and control, with one exception, Janet Reno, she sometimes thwarted his attempts. Look at Albright, what a disaster that lame brained woman was, the whole Clinton Foreign Policy was empty of any depth and we're paying for it now, trust is hard to gain.
" anti-terrorism efforts were never pursued with the urgency and determination required to avert future attacks." The urgency lay in Clinton's egregious use of Air Force One and DOD moneys to fund the Clinton's and their enormous entourage of Money for the DNC flying around the world. America the nation came absolutely last.
The Senate's blackest day was the day so many senators broke their oath of office and failed to convict this failed president who had so sullied the office he swore to protect. It was never all about an intern, it was and is about the vanity and treachery of a man and wife who are still lying to the American people and the world. And they are still stealing money from the taxpayers who must support this pair of con artists. Hillary's huge, expensive offices; Bill's questionable library; two huge homes and all their over abundance of employees and interns. Can we really afford all this?

The "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001" was not merely asleep to the dangers of the rising Muslim militancy during his watch, he made overtures to encourage their growth, and pulled his punches seriously those few times he did half-heartedly make some kind of response. No surprise that Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein thought the regime in the White House during those years was weak and dilatory, because in only one respect did the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001" ever show much focused energy about anything, and that was in getting personal selfish satisfaction. Hillary must have been greatly disappointed in his behavior from time to time.

"One of Clinton's problems, of course, was that by the time of the embassy bombings, the Monica Lewinsky scandal was consuming the administration. "
Media spin - it wasn't the Monica Lewinsky scandal - it was Paula Jones being denied her rights as a citizen.

"Morris is determined to destroy clinton and everyone around him"
Morris apparently referred to TWA 800 on TV very recently, which could be another nail in Clinton's coffin.
