The GOP made the mistake of focusing on the whole sexual pecadillo aspect. I disagree. The MEDIA focused on the sex in order to convince the American Public that it wasn't anything important, that the GOP shouldn't be nosing into the President's private life, etc. But from what I remember, the hearings tried to show the most important thing; his obstruction of justice and use of the govt. resources and personnel to cover up his crimes. Of course the Senate Repubs. read the papers and watched TV a little more than was good for them and 'weenied' out on the country. But x42 will NEVER be what he wished to be, a beloved former President. He'll only be remembered for helping himself to the perqs of office while letting the country slide into recession and war.

I agree with you to an extent, but had certain republicans and democrats not even made Lewinsky an issue, (Remember Condit was one of Bubbas harshest critics) they would have had much more success. but they seized on the Lewinsky perjury issue to make more political hay, and ended up getting burned by the revelations about Newt, Hyde and Livingston. It made them all look like hypocrites in the eyes of the uninformed majority of Americans and they lost all credibility with them.
