With the FBI issuing alerts, what should American's do to protect themselves? We have all heard that we should be observant and report strange events to the police. In the last weeks, other things have been added to the list, such as be careful of letters with powdery substances. Yet, one option has not been encouraged. News articles mention the large increase in gun sales that have taken place since Sept. 11, but fail to mention the benefits and belittle those who buy the guns. We could learn something about responding to terrorism from Israel, and encourage more ordinary, responsible citizens to carry guns.

Hum...let me think...pilots are dead...terrorist have control of the plane...shoot them.....and land the thing like they do in the movies... I don't think so... These people didn't need guns when they went in the cabin to remove the terrorists. They went with their courage and they achieved their goal. They didn't need guns, they just did it!

They HAD a pilot capable of flying and landing the plane. They HAD the will to try to take over. They lacked the firepower that could have immediately reduced the level of opposition and not given the terrorist at the controls the opportunity to fly the plane into the ground while they were trying to overcome the others in the cockpit.

Perhaps it's because there are about a hundred times more schools in USA than Canada? Perhaps it's because the Canadian parents do a better job raising their kids than Americans? On 99 of 100 trips we will both come back.Alas on that one trip,your sense of security (police based no doubt) will not be there to save you from those people who have no respect for laws or any thing but the determination to protect what is yours and the means to do so.

Call 911 and die,that's how the saying goes.
The police will come and make a report,maybe they will even catch whoever beat you to death over something as trivial as your car or watch or wallet.

And in a few years that same person will be out on the street doing it again to someone just like yourself. Sad isn't it.
