Dick Cheney due to health reasons decides to withdrawl his name from the ticket in 2004 after a very successful term as Vice President. He figures he can still stay close to the President and advise him in any way possible, but not have to deal with the every day hustle of being the Vice-President of the country. So who would President Bush pick to be his new VP? I think Condi Rice would be a wonderful choice but I dont know if this country (especially the Republican Party) is ready for a VP who is black, a woman, and from the South (Alabama). I also love Powell but would he and Pres Bush be able to work hand in hand as P-VP? Donald Rumsfeld is a terrific Sec of Defense and I think he would make a great President one day...maybe him being VP could lead us to 8 great years of a Rumsfeld Presidency after 8 great years of Bush. Other candidates that come to mind would be Tom Ridge, Liddy Dole, Ashcroft, and dare i say it...JOHN MCCAIN ( i know, i know, but i think the Bush-MCcain ticket would be a shoe in). My pick would have to be Rice, she is worth her weight in Gold. She is a genius, works well with Bush, and would really be great for the country. And what would the naysayers say after Bush nominates a black woman to be his right hand WOMman?? I think they would just have to throw up the white flag! GO DUBYA!

The fact is that legality of abortion will never change unless the Constitution is amended or the Supreme Court is packed with staunchly pro-life justices. For either to occur there would have to be a major opinion shift in this country about outlawing abortion. Without public opinion swaying in the direction of the pro-life legislative agenda, it will be impossible to enact real pro-life legislation.
If you want to solve the abortion problem, don't look to politicians who say they're pro-life but are powerless to act upon it. Look to yourselves and convert people to your viewpoint on the pro-life cause.
If Condi Rice runs as the 2004 as the GOP VP nominee, I will easily support Bush/Rice in 2004. Condi Rice is a very capable leader who would be a great VP, regardless of her abortion stance. Because unless public opinion says 'outlaw abortion', abortion won't be outlawed, even is the 2004 winners is the Keyes/Bauer ticket.
Just a thought, but just calling yourself a "thinking person" does not make you one.
Incidentally, are you pro-choice? While it is true the republican party looses some votes over the abortion issue, even liberals admit that it is more than offset by the gains.
The political reality is that Alan Keyes is simply not electable. Senator, maybe. President, not a chance in hell. Vice-President? He would drag any ticket into oblivion.
The reason for this is very simple: Keyes has a very clear-cut, clearly articulated philosophy, which very clearly appeals to a minority of voters, but which does not appeal to the majority. In a very real sense, Keyes does not represent all Americans.
Highly talented, intelligent and articulate. Just not electable as President or VP.

Are you really going to try and debate the FACT that the president has NOTHING to do with Roe v. Wade?
Are you really going to try and argue that, even if Roe v. Wade were overturned, it wouldn't go RIGHT BACK TO THE STATES TO DECIDE???

Why else would he have left his governorship in PA (one of 50 with your own militia--quite a fiefdom!) to be on the totem pole in DC. Furthermore, when I first heard the description of his job, I thought it sounded almost like a domestice vice-presidency, versus Cheney as more the international vice-president.
The most electable over the long run would be Bush/Powell, for all the obvious reasons. Maybe Powell's wife has grown more accustomed to the idea now that he has served as Sec of State. And for those who don't like Powell, you're outnumbered in the rest of the country by at least two-to-one.
Not according to any reputable polls.
If abortion had been absolutely wiped off the 2000 election, George Bush would have easily defeated the slimeball, and the Republicans would be the majority in the U.S. Senate today.
In actual fact, according to the only poll cited in this thread, without abortion, Gore would have won a majority of 3 million votes, Gore would now be President, and the Republicans would have 46 seats in the US Senate.
Perhaps. But I will never vote for a Republican who is not only anti-gun but who tries to make political points with it. McCain will never get my vote.
