Dick Cheney due to health reasons decides to withdrawl his name from the ticket in 2004

Or any other reasons.

My pick would have to be Rice, she is worth her weight in Gold.

Rice has never held elective office before (she's never ran in a campaign) and she's a little bit pro-choice.

Bush could have a hard time convincing some people in the party that she's the right choice (for what it's worth, I hope he would pick her).

Rice is pro-abortion. This would be a disaster.

For VP:

Rick Santorum

Don't be so quick to be rid of Cheney, I'm sure President Bush won't let him go easily.

If Cheney decides not to run, I say BUSH-RUMSFELD will be the winning ticket!

If it's Bush/Rice in 2004, the Republican Party will have control of the White House for possibly decades. IMHO

Bush/Rumsfeld also sounds like a great ticket. Just curious, how old is Rumsfeld?

I don't think the problem with the Republican Party would be her being black or being a woman. And I don't know how she stands on many issues, tho I do understand she is a bit pro-choice.

From what I do know about her, while I might not agree with her 100% on the issue of Life.... I could see supporting that ticket... but I'd much rather see another Bush/Cheney ticket :)

in all due respect...Rumsfeld is almost 70...dont think he'd be high up on Bush's list....think he'd look for someone a little younger...I wouldnt be surprised if he would maybe go for someone like Pataki...try and lock up those 41 electoral votes

I don't generally like what ifs because most of the time they don't happen and are a waste of time.
That said I think John Kasich would be a strong VP of the realistic candidates.

I dont know if this country (especially the Republican Party) is ready for a VP who is black, a woman, and from the South (Alabama).

The answer is the Republican Party has been ready for that for years, the problem is she thinks it's great that mother's have the right to kill their own children. The Republican Party isn't ready for that.

Rummy is 69 I believe. I just love that guy! I also like Condie Rice, but most of all, I like Cheney, and would hope and pray he remains healthy enough to continue as VP!

I consider your statement that the Republican Party might not be ready for black woman to be offensive in the extreme. Therefore, the question you posed is not worthy of an answer.

Your heart is in the right place, LSUsoph.
This *IS** a good subject for discussion, but FYI, please check out THIS THREAD:

Why do posts disappear from the sidebars?

Why do posts disappear from the sidebars?

Frequently you will see posts in the sidebars that disappear from the listing. In a nutshell, posts are removed from the sidebar when they don't meet the standards for being there or they violate posting guidelines. Those guidelines are extended and amplified here as guidelines for moderators chosen to help maintain some order.

Removal from listing in a sidebar category does not remove the post from FreeRepublic - it simply removes it from listing within the sidebar news category. This page will clarify the use of the sidebar categories, as well as provide the guidelines in use by moderators that assist in keeping the sidebars clear of inappropriate posts.

Counting posts of articles and all replies there are roughly 14-15 thousand posts on FreeRepublic every day. Too many for one person to keep track of, even though he spends on average about 16 hours a day on the job. Sidebar moderators have been in use for some time, but this is the first formal posting of the guidelines they use. You may expect to see this page updated as time and needs dictate.

Use of Breaking, Front page, Extended and Editorial

We strive to keep the content of the sidebars relevant to its title. There ARE exceptions, as you will read below. Generally if the post really fits none of the titles, it does not belong in the news sidebars. Although we lean toward permissive on the best of posts by many very good FreeRepublic writers, content of the post should in some way fit the title of the news category sidebar title. Briefly sidebar content should match the following criterion.
