I don't watch it myself, but Elmer Gantry was a good movie.

In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think.

I'm not really qualified to address her doctrinal leanings -although I can't say I've disagreed with her. But her practical advice to Christians is outstanding.

One of my favorite things I've heard her say "How can you pray to have authority over demons if you don't have authority over the dirty dishes?"

One caveat, be careful with "word of faith" teachers. Name it claim theology can be destructive. A theology for spoiled Americans. Nevertheless she is funny and does have some accurate teaching. Personally I think she would do better as a motivational speaker.

I live about half a mile from her new $2 million offices. She says she paid cash for the building and land. It's something to see.

I do like to listen to her when I get the chance. Like others here, I think she is down to earth in her message.

I like her a lot, although I rarely see her. My wife absolutely loves her.

I take hermore as a counselor than a "preacher." I like the way she says things pouint blank. I'm not into sugar coating the truth. A half truth is a whole lie.

Joyce Meyer? She is OK but her message seems to be more based on psychology than on the Word of God.

Lately (growing up in the Word of Faith Camp - to which Meyers claims to belong) I have about had it with shallow and selfish Christianity - which Meyers espouses. That is.... the main battles she is attempting to help us overcome are: spilling coffee on ourselves and keeping out temper.... keeping calm when we awake with a bad hair day.... controlling our greed and selfishness with our mate... not chewing out a waitress when they mess our order up, and so on.

It just seems to me that those kind of things are trivial at the least. Most of them I learned to control from my Mother's instruction and my Dad's discipline. It really pales in comparison to our Christian brothers and sisters overseas who are tortured and killed for their religious freedoms. (Such as Christians in Afghanistan) I sometimes wonder how long Joyce would last in such an environment? Well maybe a few weeks if they did not deprive her of makeup or a hair dryer.....

Not trying to be hard on Joyce but just thinking out loud a bit and longing for the days when Christianity will be more about worshiping God and helping others than about not blowing up when we don't get our own way and living our life just to meet our own needs.

Don't listen to her much, so I'm not one to comment on her doctrine.

Prefer Kay Arthur, as she does clear, inductive studies. Her words studies provide awesome insight.

At least she's teaching/preaching more than the same ole' same ole'. I find that 99% of the pulpit group still teach the milk of the word. They've never moved on to the meat. Most think they are teaching the meat, but they aren't. Blind shepherds continuing to blind the sheep.

I find Joyce a breath of fresh air. She's not into the meat yet, but she is dealing with lots of truth. Instead of putting satan/devil/evil one on the throne like most christians have been taught to do. She lets folks know that most times its self that made you do it, and not the satan/devil/evil one. At least it's a start. One day she'll step out and away from the milk pulpit group. She seems to be the right type to, not a herd type.

Recommend you do a Google Search on the woman, including the word charismatics in your search, and read the pros and cons.

She seems like she'd make a good dominatrix if she were "in the world" so to speak.

I have rarely ever seen this woman, as I don't normally watch TV, but the first time I heard her on the radio, I thought it was a man with a sort of high-pitched voice. I wouldn't be surprised if she "wears the pants'" in her family. Nothing wrong with a "strong woman" in the household if the man can handle it. Some men even prefer the woman to run things.

At least she doesn't scream at me through the radio speaker the way Tony Evans does.

I've never heard of her.

After I tracked down a picture to find out who you were talking about, I recognized her as someone I've seen on TV. But I've never really stuck around long enough to listen to her speak.

TV and religion is a strange mix. I'm inclined to think that almost anybody who'd put on a TV show like hers or have a web page that looks like this: Life in the Word is either strangely self-involved, or weirdly exploitative.

I like Joyce alot. I stumble onto her broadcasts most times by accident....she's on so early (5:30 am) where I live.

I find her "sermons" to be real and based in the real world. I hope God continues to bless her.

IMHO: She's a keeper!!

Personally, I have been really blessed by Kay Arthur. She does teach a "personal holiness" type of message, having a pure heart, etc. I also am blessed by Joyce Green from Texas, who is the widow of Milton Green who taught in the 1980's.

Shalom!

Dear Fellow Freepers...

"Pretty Good Down Home Preaching"...Not So Fast There Buddy!

In my Opinion, Joyce Meyer is:

* Full Of Herself and has an Ego to match

* Promotes many Heretical Views and Beliefs

* Twists and Interprets Holy Scripture to suit her own selfish/money making purposes

* Joyce is wrapped up in the Name IT, Claim IT..."Word Of Faith" movement.

* Comes very close in Substance and Style to another Big Time Heretical Teacher/Preacher/Prophet: Benny Hinn

* Joyce believes and teaches that The Redemption wrought On The Cross by Jesus Christ IS NOT SUFFICIENT and that Jesus had to GO Down Into HELL and FINISH His Redemptive Work In HELL!

***That IS HERETICAL!****

The Holy Scriptures DO NOT TEACH That!

When Jesus Christ said..."IT IS FINISHED!"

That's It...HIS REDEMPTIVE WORK WAS FINISHED FOR ALL ETERNITY!!!

Please my dear Fellow Freepers: Do Not Be Led Astray by Heretical Teachers/Preachers/Prophets.

PRAY and Ask The Holy Spirit to Help You to Understand GOD'S HOLY WORD...HE WILL Open Your Heart, Mind and Eyes to THE TRUTH! THIS IS HIS JOB and HE Does NOT Lie like Sin Filled men and women.

"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the Truth and turn aside to myths."

( 2 Timothy 4:3-4 ).

It's Later than we think...God's Time Clock is Ticking!

May The Holy One Of Israel Bless and Keep All Of You!

1 Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 1 Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
