"Meanwhile, the anti-implant "professional deaf" folks just won't let up. They tried making the implant illegal in Canada, and they nearly succeeded. They tried the same tricks here, with less success so far. Their tactics can grow ruthless, and they can go right around the bend" Sounds like they're working from the Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton Playbook. The "Poverty Pimp" principles can be used in all kinds of venues.

"The only drawback is - she is now reliant on a supply of AA batteries for her hearing. A set of rechargeables are good for about 1 waking-day ... AA alkalines slightly longer ..." I bet you could rig up a convenient outrigger (hang on her belt, or place it in a fanny pack) with high capacity NiCads or NiMhs in something from Sub-C to D size that would go for a couple of days. Or maybe even a small sealed lead-acid gelcell pack. No?

"Now - she sounds like my Mom (very Michigan-ish)!" In other words, perfectly normal? :)

Rush, if you're lurking, God bless you -- and remember: You're in our thoughts and in our prayers.

GREAT news! God bless you, Rush!
To: Humidston
This is wonderful news. I'm so happy for Rush. Merry Christmas!

Well, with his paycheck maybe he'll be able to upgrade it to include an MP3 converter. ; )
Hey, I imagine just hearing his wife's voice will be music to his ears!
To: Pokey78
I am happy to hear Rush's surgery was successful, for him personally. He could do his show with the help of a digital transcriber, but being deaf at home can really screw things up. I hope he able to hear and have a normal home life.

Rush won't be able to hear music the way we do. He may be able to get something out of hearing a song he already knows by heart, as he will get electronic feedback, but it won't be anything like what the ear can do. Rush knows that. That's almost exactly what Rush himself said, on-air.
Thanks for the info and the corroboration.

Poor bastard. Now he has to listen to that crazy broad who rants about "The Mothership" again. What? You don't want Rita X to have her free speech rights?
Rita X hasn't been heard from for a long, long time. Thank goodness.

Autoimmune diseases go after one type of cells. Ergo, they are always bilateral when those cells exist in organs that are bilateral - e.g., joints of arms/legs/hands/feet/ginfers/toes, eyes, ears, kidneys, lungs, etc. You are right. One of the ways doctors tell a patient has autoimmune (or rheumatoid) arthritis is by the fact that it affects the joints in a "mirroring" pattern.

I bet you could rig up a convenient outriggerYes, but, she would have to LUG this additional weight along with her! (She *could* wind up looking like an ENG (electronic news gatherer) cameraman/woman with a 'batter belt' around her waist).
The AA NiMH cells work pretty well ... when she was first equipped with this device the standard NiCd cells that it was equipped with were just shy of giving service throughout a waking-day ...

She's more LP ... southern LP at that (a faint but still noticeable regional accent persists there) ...

BRAVO, I hope the quality allows him to hear and detect voice sounds so that he can more easily converse both on and off the radio.
