Blame Lindh's permissive parents
Boston Globe Online ^ | December 13, 2001 | Jeff Jacoby

IT ISN'T THE CASE that the parents of John Walker Lindh - the Marin County child of privilege turned Taliban terrorist - never drew the line with their son.

True, they didn't do so when he was 14 and his consuming passion was collecting hip-hop CDs with especially nasty lyrics.

"take basic responsibilty"...

Yet more uninformed comments. Please refer me to the part of libertarianism that removes personal responsibility from the individual. This ought to be good.

You're going to have to do better than false claims that we don't make the individual take responsibility for himself.

We aren't perfect, but that's not one of our faults. Try again.

Nor when he asked his parents to pay his way to Yemen so he could learn to speak ''pure'' Arabic.

Who in blazes would send their son to Yemen in the first place?

These two airhead parents sort of remind me of the Monica Lewinsky parents. Remember when old Dr. Lewinsky met x42 and then exclaimed:"did I just meet my future soninlaw"?

The three stikes/pitches that took out Gore--liberalism!

The Gary Gramm execution--the media blew their wad on this one--W broke their casino!

The debate/nod---Gore tried to spook W--he laughed him off!

Reno expected-incited a riot...it backfired and blew Gore outta the water!

Plus the Cole---the blood on the PLO hands out the 2nd story window..

These are arsonists/criminals selling fire insurance--PARDONS.

Lindh-condit have their nose-nuts stuck in the trap again--cheese!

Oh yeah..the KISS--it was way overkill-done...phony!

I think if they had kicked his butt when he was 12, he'd be a normal kid in northern California--a little whacky, perhaps, but not a Talibunny. Too bad.

One never knows how kids will turn out even with the right upbringing, but this was asking for disaster.

I know a liberal pacifist couple whose son rebelled by becoming a sargeant in the U.S. Army. Too bad John Walker Lindh didn't go that route instead!

"But the revelation that their son had enlisted in Al Qaeda and supported the Sept. 11 attacks brought no words of reproach to their lips."

Hey, why start now?

While I agree strongly with the fact that JW's parent's failed miserably, I have to agree with CindyDawg that he is responsible for his own actions. Don't make another "victim" out of this waste of skin. He dug his own grave..let him lie in it...

That vacuum(libertarian-liberal) crap never works very long---some big pile of you know what overfills it!

Are you criticizing the parents or the author of the article?

admit some kind of objective social order, law--decency...accountable---not just "voluntary-libertarianism"...

also a Republic precludes a police state---

Did you read the George Will article?

Ever study social sciences--the "conservative art"?

It takes a 3/4 vote to change the constitution but liberals/libertarians are doing it by lies and dollars...routinely-perfectly!

..."nothing is intolerable except intolerance."

I found ample intolerance in Marin County. That's one reason I left.

There's no surprise here why their son turned out the way he did. None whatsoever.

That's right.

Since your column appeared first, and Jacoby's column contains nearly every point you made, sometimes in virtually the same language, I think you have grounds for a copyright suit....or at least a free dinner.

Congrats - you nailed every sickening point about these touchy-feely, moral relativitistic, non-confrontational and non-compas-mentas (sp)liberal parents. Eagles-Up, Lets Roll!!

As a full-fledged libertarian, I take offense to the way you attempt to lump Lib'rals with libertarians when they are diametrically-opposed polar opposites of each other. Are you trying to make a point, my GOPer FRiend, or are you just confused as to the reality of the situation?!

Just askin'...MUD

admit some kind of objective social order

No initiation of force or fraud. A social order that is purely objective.

Did you read the George Will article?

Which one?

Ever study social sciences--the "conservative art"?

Social science (euphemism for social engineering) is a conservative art? HAHA! That'll be news to the conservatives on this sight! LOL!

It takes a 3/4 vote to change the constitution but liberals/libertarians are doing it by lies and dollars...routinely-perfectly!

You have no grip on reality. The only person in a position to do so who could be called libertarian (small l) is Ron Paul, and he votes 100% with the Constitution. He even authored a bill to require all bills to site the specific part of the Constitution that authorizes them. YOUR PARTY, in a beautiful example of bi-partisanship, made sure the bill never made it to a vote.

I could start an entire thread highlighting laws both R's and D's have done that violate the Constitution and would require an amendment to be legitimate. But I don't need to, you see, because FR is full of them, every single day of the week.
