Seeking information on Ruby Ridge

I was watching a show about Ruby Ridge last night on The Learning Channel, but unfortunately only saw the last part of it. I'm looking for an informative but unbiased account of what happened there. I know it's a very emotionally charged issue and has become a cause celebre for many, but what I'm looking for is a dispassionate account that just recites what happened and doesn't take sides. If anyone knows where I can find such an account I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

CIVIL SUITS SETTLED IN RUBY RIDGE CASE

The Department of Justice announced today that it has resolved all claims by the Randy Weaver family against the United States and its employees.

Under the settlement, each of the three children of Vicki Weaver will receive $1 million and her husband Randy will receive $100,000 to resolve $200 million in claims filed by the family after the deaths of Mrs. Weaver and her 14-year-old son, Samuel, at Ruby Ridge, Idaho in August, 1992.

The settlement reflects the loss to the Weaver children of their mother and brother. By entering into a settlement, the United States hopes to take a substantial step toward healing the wounds the incident inflicted.

Samuel Weaver was killed on August 21, 1992 in a firefight with U.S. Marshals that left Samuel and Deputy U.S. Marshal William Degan dead. Marshals were surveilling the property in preparation for serving an arrest warrant on Randy Weaver.

Mrs. Weaver was accidentally killed the next day when a bullet fired by an FBI agent struck her as she stood out of sight behind a cabin door.

The United States does not admit wrongdoing or legal liability to the plaintiffs. At the instance of the government, the settlement agreement explicitly provides that nothing in its language is intended to interfere with or reduce the availability of information or evidence in connection with the incident."

I recommend Ambush at Ruby Ridge by Alan Bock. It's been a long time since I read it, but if I remember correctly the author has no ideological axe to grind and when he started his research was very unsympathetic to the "extremist" Weavers.

You're not going to find a dispassionate report on Ruby Ridge.
The reason is that it took several years after it happened for it to hit the news. It didn't make the press until after Randy Weaver was aquitted.
The mainstream media (that's almost all there was back then) didn't deem it "newsworthy"....yeah right, federal marshall, 14 year old kid, dog and woman holding a baby are all DEAD and that's not "newsworthy".
I grew up in Idaho so I knew a little about it. The earliest mention in the media (besides local reports and one snippet on CNN) was in the NRA's magazine called Rifleman.

Badabump! I saw that show too. They show was sympathetic to the Weavers (as it should have been) and made the US Marshals and the FBI out to be the unrestrained murderers that they were.

Try researching the Idaho newspapers (e.g. Boise). You won't find an unbiased account in the mainstream liberal press. Try finding the transcripts of the Randy Weaver Trial.

I say, we show Rules of Engagement (Waco story), the Ruby Ridge documentary and follow that with "Flight 800: The Untold Story" - all consecutively. This should paint a fairly accurate picture of the state of the F.B.I.

Good idea, but if they're showed all at once it might just seem too absurd to believe for the "uneducated". LOL

With regards to the Ruby Ridge fiasco, I was shocked when it was revealed that the order to "shoot on sight" was issued by the top brass at the FBI. I had always thought that Dick Rogers (I think that's his name), the FBI field agent in charge, had given the order. Scary stuff.

Yes, it shocked me too, but not as much as when they murdered the children in Waco. Even if they didn't shoot on the bldg (which they DID IMO), the gas would have killed the children anyway. I have zero respect for the FBI. Zero. They are a criminal rogue quasi-secret police organization that should be abolished for crimes against U.S. citizens.

I guess the FBI found out you don't mess with folks in Idaho - juries up their chewed them up and spit em out. I love those people up there! Meanwhile, I have to live in the land of fruits and nuts.

The thing that really interests me is that the ACLU, crybaby leftists, fellow travelers, and fifth columnists were nowhere to be found here and the general tone was that Weaver was a right-wing milita nut who got what he deserved. In the same sense that the press/leftie morons would've acted differently during the Elian thing if his father were trying to take him to Serbia or to apartheid era South Africa, they would've been singing a different tune if Weaver were a commie nut or black separatist (or, to judge from what's happening today, a muslim).

I watched that last night and was struck by the federal officials (two guys) who actually shed tears over the debacle; they felt so bad. I had also never been aware of the anger and outrage expressed by the Ruby Ridge neighbors - especially the WOMEN! They went ballistic when they learned of the Weaver boy's death (shot in the back) and the mother's head being blown off. The Weaver daughter (who was 16 at the time of the tragedy) was very articulate and she cried as she remembered her last conversation with her brother and she cried when discussing her mother's death. I found the documentary very enlightening. What a nightmare for Randy Weaver!! They received a settlement but no amount of money can make up for that disgraceful federal disaster.

Gee, these guys can put a 3 shot group in a dime at 100 meters yet he manages to blow her effin head off by "accident".

I can't believe they have the nads (or the stupidity) to even put out such an absurd and outrageous statement. They would have been better served to just not say anything than to insult the intelligence of anyone with even a limited amount of common sense or intelligence.

Then the miserable POS doesn't even get fired, much less prosecuted.
