But half the foreign and defense policy establishment fears, legitimately, that the
Big Terrible Thing is coming, whether in India-Pakistan, or in Asia
or in lower Manhattan.
Just had to repeat this for "scanners" (like myself) who often miss some of the best stuff.
I'd heard some commentators talking about Ms. Noonan's column on "The Big Terrible
Thing", but hadn't picked up on her foresight (which I suspect even she isn't
happy about).
When I heard this part of Ms. Noonan's column yesterday for the first time, as read by
Hugh Hewitt, Esq., I got goosebumps.
Will probably have them for a few more days.....

Oh, and for cynics/skeptics who'll say "Noonan hedged her bets by picking three spots",
I'd say "fair comment".
But in my next breath, I'd say that if VP Cheney has to bow out for the next election,
promote Condi Rice to the VP spot on the ticket and make Ms. Noonan (and whoever she
consulted in the defense establishment) into Dubya's next strategic policy advisor!

I just read it a second time.
I listened to Bush at the Citadel, we are so fortunate that we have him as President!
This column needs to be Bronzed and kept on the Mantle!

Someone help me out. I was as blown away by the Noonan excerpt as anyone, but I got snagged on this line:
a modest man of good faith is the one we'll need in charge. That is George Herbert Walker Bush, governor of Texas.
Isn't "George Herbert Walker Bush" #41, Dubya's father? Or am I mistaken?
And, if I'm right, is this a misprint by Noonan, or Hewitt?

You are correct.
It appears that Hugh (or his proofreader at WND) is in error.
Peggy had it right in the original:
"...If we must go through a terrible time, a modest man of good faith is the one we'll need in charge. That is George Walker Bush, governor of Texas."

Peggy had it right in the original Glad to hear it. So well-written and prescient, would have been a shame to have been marred by a silly mistake like that. Best,

Thanks for the post and thanks for the ping. And, for our evening readers.....BTTT

Why is it that Katie Couric is "poised to become the highest paid reporter in the world" and not the continually surprising and insightful Peggy Noonan? Because Peggy is a commentator, not a journalist? Please, do you ever not know Katie's opinion about something?
To: JohnHuang2
Why on earth is Hugh Hewitt supporting Riordan for governor? Can someone tell me?!
To: Mia T
As always, great post!
To: RonDog
This is an excellent article, and very astute of HH to catch Noonan's comments. What would have happened if Gore had won? He may have reinvented himself as a Taliban.
What I do not understand is why there wasn't more coverage of the 50 million dollar lawsuit filed by the owner of the apsirin factory in Sudan. Clinton said we were going after evil bin Laden.

Thanks !!!!!

How 'bout Bob Dornan?

I love that bronzed and put on the mantle! You have a way with words. Hewitt said,
It is common now to note how little time was spent on terrorism in the three presidential and one vice presidential debates last fall. Don't blame President Bush or Vice President Gore they weren't asking the questions
I too heard President Bush speak at the Citadel and he said that during his campaign he spoke there at the Citadel about global terrorism and how the military was going to have to be changed for the new century, different king of warfare.

Peggy had it right in the original. . . Thanks for that update, RonDog. When I read that article, I thought, Gee, I thought that was Daddy's name. . .am I goin' nuts???

Because Peggy is a commentator, not a journalist? Please, do you ever not know Katie's opinion about something? I'm not sure where that quote is coming from (not this article, though). Sounds like it could have been written by one of the same folks that dubbed hitler clintoon as the smartest woman in the world, though?? ;-)
To: MeeknMing
The quote came from the title of a headline on Drudge's page.
To: Cinnamon Girl
Funny, after I posted my note, I went to Drudge and (as you said), there it was! ;-)
To: RonDog
Thanks, Ron. While the American people are pulling together and supporting our President, these silly writers wallow in their playground of shallowness and trite nothings.
Yes, the defense establishment could see this coming, as they knew Clinton, in his quest for a legacy and a Nobel Peace prize, ignored the security of our Nation. Well, I hope he's proud of his legacy: 4,000 dead Americans. That should be the theme of his stupid library: The blood of 4,000 Americans is on his hands.

Hi, DLfromthedesert! I have not seen you posting here in a while!
Welcome back! ;-)
