Is the USA in the book of Revelation
Vanity,Self | 12/08/01 | Fish Hawk

Please excuse my Vanity but I've studied the book of Revelation looking for a hint of where and what the USA will be involved in at that time.
I come up empty, can any of you Bible scholars point me in the right direction?

I generally agree but Revelation 13 (Rev 13 / Rev 13 drawing) is actually three-fold ... Political, Economic and Religious Babylon ... the other two turn on Religious Babylon (city) and destroy her part-way through the Tribulation ... she is labeled a "city" no less than 10 times in Rev 14, 16, 17 and 18 ...

That makes sense too. I guess that's how you got your name. But Rev. does tell us to study and look into this prophecy also.

if you see over 2000 years as shortly, then your perception of time is warped

sort of reminds me of a frank an earnest cartoon. the two are talking to god:

frank: "is it true that a second to you is like a million years?"
god: "yes"
earnest: "is it true that to you a penny is like a million dollars?"
god: "yes again"
frank: "can you give us a penny?"
god: "of course. just a second"

if you believe that the bible is the divine word of god, you must realize that the wisdom inside is from god, and that statemets are often times from his perspective.

Agreed. However we were told to watch for the signs. If these are not the beginning of the 'birth pangs' then when those times do come they are surely going to be beyond immagination. When and if we see two supernatural beings witnessing in Jerusalem I think we will be able to stop arguing about the details.

Most now believe that chapter 13 is pointed at the U.S.

As you probably know the number 13 is itself symbolic of the U.S. (13 colonies, etc) and no other modern nation has achieved any great or lasting global influence.

oh geez, here we go again, another person using God's word and trying to apply some prophecy to modern times. Jack Van Impe is wrong....and has been for a long time. At the turning of the year 1000, they thought the end was near to. The signs for believers should be clear when it actually is approaching. There is nothing out of the ordinary going on. There have been wars since the beginning of time, for example.

I agree with not fitting Revelation to present state of affair. That's like making Nostradamus prophesies fit incidents that have happened.

"Most of the Revelation of St. John has already come to pass long ago."

That is a common liberal cop-out.

First, it is the Revelation of Jesus Christ, not of John.

Nothing from chapter 4 on has in any way been fulfilled. - To say that it has is to assert that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a complete failure, since we then would have to be living in the millenial kingdom.

Beginning of the Book says "these things which must shortly come to pass" If you see over 2000 years as "shortly" your perception of time is warped...

The book was written about the first century AD, not today. Thats what they seem to overlook because they feel as the "true believers" that they are going to get a free ticket out just in time to avoid the "tribulation." Nero was the Anti-Christ. There is no rapture.

True but if you take the six day creation theory (a day is a thousand years) the time would be at hand...YES.

direction is given in relation to Jerusalem ... Flavius Josephus tells us the descendents of Magog settled north of the Black Sea ... I believe you can find Magog in the Table of Nations in Genesis 10 ... this Ezek 38 battle appears to be one of many battles of the Tribulation period ...

Tornado, how many times do I have to tell you: a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day. What is time to God?

If you are going to explain away time, then why so literal about all the spiritual metaphors throughout Revelations. Why take them literally if you dont accept time descriptions literally?

"Nero was the Anti-Christ. There is no rapture."

So Paul and Peter were all wet? - - What then was Paul talking about?

Does that mean that Satan is to remain in control, and that there will be no Kingdom Age?

Are you saying that God doesn't win?

C'mon, tell us the whole story, I can hardly wait.

If you used the Bible like a flashlight things wouldn't be so dark. If I remember right Agnostic means "unknown" or lack of knowledge.
