Just curious, how do the "idiot" users rate their IT support?
doesn't matter. IT is the 911 that fools who have no personal responsibility call,
then usually complain about for not dropping their lunch to help.
sound familiar? sometimes i think some HUGE capacitors hooked up
to the help desk lines would be helpful.
it will be three days before the morons quit complaining, again.
that's why they pay us geeks the big bucks. right.
If they're typical "idiot" (L)users, then they probably say that tech support sucks because tech support won't fix their copy of MSN Messenger or Spinner just because they didn't put it on the original image. "And yeah, I know, help desk said that it might cause issues with Windows 2000, but I didn't think it would happen on my computer. And why should I back my files up? Oh, and yes, I know the power is out right now, but can you still install the anti-virus on my machine from the servers? What do you mean I have to turn the power on at the surge suppressor before I can turn on my computer?"
Excellent point. I have fired too many IT support emplopyees for being rude to users whose main job is not understanding the operation of a computer but the generation of profit.
A decent IT department would have dealt with this at the mail server level than pray that non-computer experts would be able to deal with the problem. I would be embarassed to publically admit that a virus/worm had made it past my defenses into a user's mailbox.
My one client calls me slow, stupid, and always on the verge of a disaster. He pays me half of what I bill as a consultant. Three idiots over there just opened the goner.scr virus. I am at the edge of revolt, IT people are always overworked (by far), under paid and rarely respected. I'm so stupid, I'm the only one who can make their network function.
Good question. I got hit with an old virus (first found in April) last week because an IT guy turned of my virus protection (which is all managed thru the LAN cuz there at too many idiot users </sarcasm> ). Then, the IT guy didnt know how to reload the signature files off of the LAN. He also had no idea how to clean my computer. I went to the McAfee website and read how to manually clean my machine. Thanks IT!
I'm hung with not only the computers at our small firm, but also the phones, voice mail, access doors, burgler alarms, cell phones, etc.
When the idiot users, normally identified by the VP after their name, don't want to acknowledge receiving a voice mail or email from the CEO, they blame the idiot in IT for his crummy systems.
When they set off the burgler alarm after hours, they blame the cleaning people. I have the logs proving otherwise, but my boss, another VP, says it would accomplish nothing to confront them. Perhaps if my boss's name was on the call list to meet the Sheriff he would feel differently.
I had one VP who called to complain his keyboard wasn't working. I had it replaced within 3 minutes of his first call. Walking past his office about 10 minutes later, I heard him on the phone telling someone that he didn't get any work done that morning because the stupid IT guy couldn't fix his keyboard.
