This is hilarious. They have to make a movie out of this.

"...This is hilarious. They have to make a movie out of this..." If so, Jerry Stiller ('George Costanzas' father 'Frank' on Seinfeld) should be tapped to play Levy.

They sound like a couple I know. They should get married.

I am skeptical even though the article appears legit. You're right it is funny and would make a great movie.
Who would be the actors?

My husband's father was expelled or sat shiva because he married out of the faith. My husband and his siblings have never met any relative or knows any relative from his father's family. Even after his father married, he continued to send money to the mother knowing that she considered him dead. She excepted the money but never had contact with. It's amazing the lack of allegience of the family unit.

A Mazeltov humor bump.

Danny DeVito for the younger one.

Incredibly, it appears to be true. If you do a Google search on "Kabul jews", you'll find it's been reported all over the place, right back to August of this year. Levy seems to be lying about his age - several sources have him down as 72. The more you look into it, the funnier it gets.
As for the casting, it's a shame Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are gone. Jerry Stiller would be great though. "Serenity now!!"

I am skeptical even though the article appears legit. There was an article on these two guys about a year ago. Seems nothing has changed.

Worse, both men were thrown into jail, where for eight hellish days they were forced to share a cell with several bemused Afghan Muslims looking on. This is too good, it has to be made into a movie.

I'm a bit confused. The Taliban destroyed centuries old Budda's, but locked the Torah away for safe keeping?
To: sharktrager
The prohibition is against images, pictures, statues, idols. The Torah is a written scroll, which is a completely different matter.

Billy Crystal and Robert DeVito, as in "Throw Mother from the Train".

I read a similar peice in a different publication. Funny stuff. I think the Taliban keep them around for the pure humor factor they provide them with :)

I emailed this thread to a friend, here is his reply:
"From My Jewish friend.
xxxxx, believe it or not, I read that story in a Jewish publication a yearor more ago, and I'm not certain I even knew where Kabul was located at the time.
I think one of the parties has died since, and the other party stated, "I wish my enemy would have outlived me because NOW there is no one here to properly bury me as a Jew!" "

Or, how about "Torah! Torah! Torah!"
