Somebody needs to take Lott in for a spine transplant.

This sounds more like a 'pull back for now' rather than giving up...this is actually better than usual for the Senate GOP. Certainly nothing to be excited about, though. :-(

Here we are in the middle of war in which we are funneling billions in energy payments to our enemies, and the democrats don't want to let a bill to allow us to develop our own sources of energy come to a vote. And the super - incompetent Republicans are unable to make a case for it. Congress is a mess of incompetents and scum, just what one would expect a mal - educated public to elect.

Traitor Lott at work. When historians write his biography, they will name it Profiles in Cowardice.

Trent Lott in another one of his strategic retreats has the Democrats trembling again. /sarcasm

Due to welfare reform, the democraps here have no political funding. The free handouts aren't as easy to get ahold of like they used to be.
They need that foreign money!!!
If we drill our own oil, the democraps would have zilch to pay for their re-elections.
They don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

Actually...if it were actually this bill that was up on the floor, it would have passed because the Republicans have the 50 vote majority needed to pass it. But since they were trying to attach this to an unrelated bill and end debate now, they needed 60 votes, which it appears they couldn't get. Now we're beholden to Daschle to actually put the energy bill on the floor. Yippee. Still...the Republicans should have had the vote anyway to reveal all the people crappy enough to vote against this.

Let me get this straight...we're in a war in the Middle East and the Senate is considering a railroad pensions bill before national energy legislation--and the GOP cannot win the argument that Dashole is putting partisan concerns over national security?! Lott and company are beyond hope.

by virtue of Vermont Sen. James Jeffords' decision to bolt the GOP and become a Democratic-aligned independent earlier this yearJeffords is a traitor, just like his buddy Abdul hippie Hamid.

Think how popular Republicans would be if they once, just once, put up a fight for something the country wants and desperately needs!

Senate GOP gives up
Thank God that President Bush doesn't lead the war the way Lott "leads" the Senate GOP.

dasshole knew he had nothing to worry about. Why else would he let it come up? Now dasshole has won yet another battle in this chess game. "We were going to let you vote, obviously you wanted the Issue, not the resolution."
Pay attention.....these have a cumulative effect. Everytime the GOP nuetralizes itself, President Bush loses a little more influence. The dems get a little more. And we sit around and say "The dems are screwing themselves!!!" No way, no how. They have us playing the stupid game.
Trent Lott is an idiot and if the rest of the GOP in the Senate go along with it, they are no better than he is.
