5,000 Freepers who care are needed now!
Donate to Free Republic ^ | 30 November 2001 | Grampa Dave

We need the stewardship of 5,000 Free Republic members to insure the continuation of the Free Republic Life Form!

Jim Robinson said in yesterday's post: "My projections are that our regular monthly expenses for next year will be running in the neighborhood of $22,000 per month, or approximately $264,000 total for the year. This means we will need to raise approximately $66,000 per quarter."

If 5,000 Free Republic members who believe in paying their own way and that no free lunch ever exists, pledge $5/month. Jim's goals and needs will be quickly surpassed!

5,000 good stewards of Free Republic pledging $5/month will total $75,000 per quarter. That would allow Jim/John a little breathing room!

Many of us donate more per month than that. So please don't reduce your donation. We just need 5,000 regular pledgers to make things easier for Jim.

Are there 5,000 good Stewards out there who can afford $5/month to keep alive the Free Republic Life Form?

One way to afford this is to cancel your subscription to your left wing fish wrap or bird cage liner. Donate half of that monthly cost to your favorite charity and the rest to Free Republic. If you do this, you remove your money from the enemies of America and invest it with the friends of America, Free Republic! That would be a double winner for America!

Become one of the 5,000 Freepers who believe that there is no Free Republic lunch and that only parasites want something for free! Sign up for $5/month on a monthly auto payment plan!

Ha! Don't knock it: for some FReepers, cheese culture is the only culture they'll ever have. :)

"And your excellent proposal to get 5,000 Freepers to donate at least $5 a month is scaring the hell out of the scumbags who want to drag us down."

Ok, I was planning to do $10/mo, but after reading that I'm gonna stretch it to $15/mo!

Count me in as a member of Grampa Dave's 5000 Freeper Club

"There are many new pledgers without jobs, pledging to support Free Republic. There are "old" pledgers without jobs, and they are maintaining their pledges!"

Thanks, Grampa Dave. Great thread, great comments and great ideas. And lots of dedicated FReepers sending donations. Thank you one and all. I really admire the determination and generosity, but I would like to ask people to please not send money that is needed for other things.

FReegards to all,

Jim Robinson

I am developing an invention through INVENT-TECH. It is (tentatively) called the Blake#1. If an automotive company would join with me this invention could be marketed. I would pledge a percentage of the royalties (by contract)to maintaining FREE REPUBLIC. The invention has been registered with the Department of Commerce, patent and copyright division. Can anyone help me get a company? It is a rear view mirror that eliminates "Blind Spots".

With summer steelhead and warm bluejay days in the winter, we can get the western steelhead to take a fly on top of the water.

The hardest thing in the world is not to strike or move your fly when you see a large steelhead on the surface going for your fly. Too many of us, including yours truly, have instinctly saved the fly by jerking it out the way on the encoming steelhead!

Two of the funniest things happened on one fishing trip in May to the Yuba River. I have a new Spey Rod and I was dragging the fly on top of the water setting the double D power cast. Just as I started to lift the fly up for the actual power cast, a 23-24 inch rainbow/steelhead (we never know what they are on our rivers) struck the fly. I ended up with about 60' of fly line all over me, my rod and the water in front of me. Fortunately the fish was stunned and just layed in the water as I recovered from my shock and got the line off of me and my rod and back on the spool. I was able to release him and get him recovered.

About 30 minutes later I had cast out about 65'. As the end of the fly line hits the water with a Spey cast, the terminal gear kinda floats up in the air and the fly settles slowly on the water. An even bigger fish jumped out of the water and struck the fly in air. He had 30' more line out on me before I realized what was happening. As my spool headed into the backing he got off due to currents and line slack!

A guide was behind me with 3 clients, and they were as amazed as I was. The guide wanted to know what time of cast that was. My answer, just good old unplanned luck!

Having said that, 98% of our steelhead are caught under an indicator or "blind" drifts. We never see the fish until after it is hooked and jumps to throw the hook!

Blake, I would suggest that next tuesday, wed or thurs, to post a thread on Free Republic and ask for the advice of the people here. You will get some silly replies. However, the brain power and business savey of Freepers is awesome. This weekend with the contribution campaign going on, you might not get the hits/readership you want. Or you may want to post it next Saturday Morning to get the business warriors as they log on for their weekend tour of FR. Good Luck!

Jim, from the replies that I got yesterday, it appears that with many of us, supporting Free Republic is a basic requirement/need! That requirement is being budgeted right there with other primary budget needs! That is really amazing to me and had a big impact on me! They/we don't even want to consider life without Free Republic!

However, having said that, like you, I urge people to care for their family first in times of need!

Ed, thanks your generous monthly donation. As Sam noted, we are scaring the hell out of the left wingers. Each Freeper who donates on a monthly basis insures that Free Republic will be around to continue to scare the hell out the left wingers!

Thanks to you and Mrs NerdDad for your monthly donation.

I love the comment Freeploader! Good luck with your two sons. We have two great young men in their 30's.

One of the funniest lines I have ever heard, "Grandchildren are God's Gift to you for not killing your children while they were teenagers!"

Julie posted, "Thanks for the ping...I've been a quarterly contributor but can switch to monthly if that is better for FR.....I "

Whatever is best for you. If it is no problem, being on the financial committee of our church, I know that monthly donations are tremendous to help with the budget planning and bill paying. Again, whatever is best for you! Thanks for giving and caring about Free Republic!

Howlin, thanks for watching over this site after I folded.

I have a cold and should have seen it coming. However, the whole family has incredible immune systems. When a cold or virus hits us, we cave out (which I did last night), and usually get back on board in a couple of days or less!

So right now I'm about 80% of normal, and will pace myself.

Thanks again for sheparding this thread and all of the people you pinged. Just reading the comments we got yesterday, makes your feel very good about our fellow Freepers and Free Republic!
