GARDEN GROVE -- Mark Rosen was fuming after waiting in line for the Harry Potter movie, but he wasn't angry about the long wait.
It was the smokers puffing away around children that upset the Garden Grove councilman. Rosen plans to propose a local law at tonight's council meeting that would ban smoking in movie lines, parks and fast-food playgrounds.

I bet if I were to tell Mr Rosen that he shouldn't be allowed to expose children to Harry Potter, he'd become Captain Constitution.? I bet you'd win that bet!

"There were these adults smoking cigarettes in these lines, around kids who are basically captive, and if adults don't have sense enough to not smoke in those confined quarters, then we ought to have a law that enforces it," said Rosen. "I call it my Harry Potter ordinance." Joe, I think this is the most revealing comment in the entire article. Notice that our heroic councilman doesn't mention about adults having the sense or, in his case courage, to politely ask those smoking to refrain.
No, this punk doesn't even have the courage to confront someone if that someone is involved in an activity that makes him "fume", and is, in his estimation, presenting a danger to his children. He will, however, come across like John Wayne at the council meeting.

Hehe...maybe. Looking like Dean Cain has it's drawbacks...LOL. Come to think of it...I sometimes fart while I eat too. Hurry or no hurry. It's just fun. Except when the wife is around. She just doesn't appreciate body functions like I do.

How I long for the old days. When cigarettes were 35 cents a pack. Going to restaurants where there was an ashtray on every table! Where the bars and disco's were smoked filled. Smokers and non smokers were there, no one cared if you smoked or not. It was great. I really long for the old days.

You're saying that a 4 foot tall, 75 pound, 8 year old boy is supposed to walk up to a 6 foot, 200 pound, 40 year old man and say "Excuse me, pardon for the intrusion, I know it's really not my place and everything, but could you put that out, please"? Give me a break!

We are not only forced to the back of the bus, we are not even ALLOWED on the bus. ~sigh.... I agree with you - but the anti-smokers will tell you we are welcome on (the back of)the bus, it's just our smoke that is not. Hogwash!!!!!!!!

That's exactly what it LOOKS like - but that's not what is going on here. There is no way any politician will ban tobacco smoking - it brings to much money into the governemtn and anti-smokers pockets.Soooooo not true....What the politicians want is to Ban it here, and Force the Tobacco Death Peddlers to EXPORT to the rest of the world.Companies turn a big profit, farmers keep growing it, Politicians look like they actually care...

Wonderful 'hack' writing. Swallow your bottled water, don't inhale.

BRAVO!!!!!!!!
It restores my faith in the American spirit to see more and more non-smokers starting to open their eyes to the ridiculousness of the anti-smokers.

Ah, yes, the idiocy of avoiding cancer.

Absolute truth. I do not know how I survived living and raising a non tree hugging normal granddaughter out there in Kalifornia for 17 years. Escaped back to the east coast and some sanity, and then the 2000 election happened where I live near the terminally stupid Palm Beachers. It's every where!
To: HarryDunne
But should the avoidance be a personal choice, or by Government Edict? (p.s. be prepared to hand over arguments that tell exactly which part of the Constitution grants gov't such Power...)

Add this to the long list of things that Californians are wrong about. I don't know how anyone can live there. Sorry J.B.
To: HarryDunne
Harry, please go back and re-read my post. Unless the councilman is 4' tall, 8 years old and weighs 75 pounds, your comment does not relate to my post.
I said that even though he, the, I presume adult, councilman, was so upset and concerned, he (the councilman) did not have the adult sense or courage to do something about it.
No, people like the councilman, though incapable of problem solving in real life, feel more comfortable enacting laws to accomplish what he is afraid to address.

Typical smoker, thinks he makes up all the rules.
