GARDEN GROVE -- Mark Rosen was fuming after waiting in line for the Harry Potter movie, but he wasn't angry about the long wait.

It was the smokers puffing away around children that upset the Garden Grove councilman. Rosen plans to propose a local law at tonight's council meeting that would ban smoking in movie lines, parks and fast-food playgrounds.

Yes, those poor childrennnn!!!! Their noses are at the appropriate level to smell all sorts of nasties, from flatulence to feminine hygene sprays to perfume. Imagine the methane exposure, the aromatic hydrocarbons, the alcohols and esthers these poor children are exposed to. Its enough to keep them home in their nice formaldehyde laced (newly) carpeted room.

Poor, poor, little captives, breathing the fumes of mommy's favorite fabric softener off of their little garments. Inhaling the volatile remnants of hair spray or mousse, underarm deodorant, and perfume.

Don't for a moment tell me this is anything BUT an excuse to go NAZI on smokers again, but then, the NAZIs did things "for the children", too.

Smoking in line is a fire hazard and should be avoided especially with children around.

Smokin' Joe, it's sure funny that the anti's cry foul about smokers and smoking, but I would bet that THEY have some habits that "we" would find disgusting. If you know what I mean. No one is perfect in this world. Yet, for some God Awful reason, they think because they don't smoke, then their chit don't stink. What's wrong with this picture!

I couldn't give a rat's a$$ if smokers want to kill themselves, heck, I wish they would smoke two at a time!

I just wish they would crawl into a hole as far from me as they can to do it -- rude bastards.

That's a nice congenial attitude you have there - where did you find it?

Some people are just SO eager to show how powerful they are. Does this guy not have anything better to do? Do the councilmen keep a notepad handy just for jotting down ideas for stupid, neo-fascist laws?

Who wants to bet this guy is compensating for other, shall we say, shortcomings. I'll bet he's got a prescription for Viagra.

Come off it, minion. The only time smoking in line would be a serious fire hazard is if it is inside a building.
According to you smoking, period, is something that should not be done, around children or not.
So why not just come out and say it, you're an anti-smoker.
We've seen you say before that it should be up to the business owner to decide whether smoking is allowed in their place of business, so what is the big deal about smoking outside?

I agree...and I do not agree with the smoking nazis. But the times that I am standing right next to someone in a crowded area and I ask them if they wouldn't mind moving or stopping and I get a rude comment. I will thus whip out one my sulphur stink bombs and commence to drop it and set it off. You talk about chit stinking...well...let's both stink. HEHE..that or some fart spray. I frequent bars when I travel alone. I don't prefer to eat at a table alone so I eat at the bar. I can't count on my fingers and toes the people that walk up to the bar..I may be the only person there at the time...and they sit right next to me and light up without taking into consideration my eating...no problem. Just whip out my handy dandy fart spray...and give them a taste of their own medicine...and if my wife happened to fix chili the day prior..no need for the spray. Sounds fair...eh?

So if you can't smoke inside and you can't smoke outside, this fellow wants to ban smoking period.

That's exactly what it LOOKS like - but that's not what is going on here. There is no way any politician will ban tobacco smoking - it brings to much money into the governemtn and anti-smokers pockets.

Outside? On the sidewalk? Fire hazard?

The BS must be deeper (and more dry) in CA than it is here if there is a fire hazard on the sidewalk.

Well, when you go into a bar or restaurant that accomodates smokers, you know it. And if they sit next to you at an empty bar and light up, people just figure that in an establishment that allows smoking, no one minds. And if they sit right next to you, when there are plenty of open seats, maybe they, too, don't want to be alone. Maybe, they too, just need companionship. If smoking is allowed in an establishment, then everyone believes that no one minds. No one "used" to mind......

`The only time smoking in line would be a serious fire hazard is if it is inside a building.

I don't know about you but when I smoked I avoided smoking in lines precisely because of the greater chance that someone could bump into my cigarette. When children are in line the danger increases because the move suddenly.

Unlike this guy I would have confronted the smoker rather than trying to pass a law.

But you should look closer at this event and you will see what I have been telling you is true. Anti's couldn't give a $hit about the health dangers, they just hate the smell of your smoke. All the health issue stuff is just crap so that they can justify having the smoke removed from their noses by the force of law.

I know that...but common courtesy would say...if you approach a bar with one individual sitting there eating. Would you chose a stool 2 down from that person and smoke while they were eating...or would you choose the opposite end. It's just common courtesy...I don't think farting is illegal either.

I understand what your saying. Maybe that person that sits next to you when there are plenty of open seats, likes you?

Anyway, farting is something one does not do in public. We all know that is very bad manners. I know your coming back with "smoking close to me," is also bad manners. But like I said: in a smoking establishment, everyone takes it for granted that everyone in there knows smoking is allowed and people will not mind.

I have been to known to smoke WHILE I eat. Especially if I am short on time. heh!

We already KNOW that.
If in a line, outdoors, where there is little danger of a wildfire starting, I take more care where my cigarette is so that someone doesn't brush against it. If someone asks politely I wouldn't hesitate to put my cigarette out. If someone got in my face about it I would probably "accidentally" blow smoke in their face.
