Former Pittsburgh School Board President Charged with Raping 7-Year-Old

A former Pittsburgh Board of Public Education president has been charged with rape. Police say Ron Suber, 49, assaulted a 7-year-old girl on Nov. 3. He was arraigned Monday on charges including rape, indecent assualt and indecent exposure.

Suber lives in the Manchester section of the city's North Side. He served four terms on the city's school board, and was the board president for four years.

Suber is free on bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 6.

Thanks for the ping. Very mixed messages here. Child rape is VERY VERY serious business and I wouldn't think that a DA would hand down an arrest like this without extremely good evidence -- esp. for a "black leader". Yet, . . . he's out on bond!

I'm new to the area. Why is he a "former" SB president? Is it because of these charges?

Also, there might be some internal Pittsburgh Democratic party politics involved. How does he relate to the Murphy/O'Donnell factions in the city?
