Dear FReeper Friends:
Please forgive me for starting a second vanity, but I wanted to send a special thank you to the 120+ FReepers who have kept us in their prayers, offered their best wishes, written to me personally, or shared their own accounts of life with a premature child. I can't say I was surprised by the generous outpouring of love and support, as FReepers are fabulous individuals with open hearts, but I was overwhelmed, and continue to be overwhelmed, by your precious gifts of self. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Now for the good news! By all accounts, those prayers are definitely being answered. Skylar has made tremendous progress over the last four days. She is breathing without any artificial assistance, is eating 4 times the amount per feeding since Thursday, breastfed from Momma this morning, and they have pulled her IVs. Where we originally expected to have her remain in the hospital till Christmas, we are optimistic about having her home next week. We've been doing hour-long "kangaroo" treatments with her, filled with cuddling, singing, kisses and talking, and her response has been astounding. She's opening her eyes regularly, attempting to focus, sleeping longer and deeper, and is very active when awake.
There does not appear to be any damage from her complicated, emergency delivery. The nurses all report that her responses are consistently normal.
On this end, my health has greatly improved, as well. My staples are healing nicely, my strength is returning with greater force daily, and my spirits are constantly lifting. My son, another miracle baby, has handled all the changes with a casual flair, and my unflappable husband has been a source of continual strength and patience, taking care of all my son's needs and ensuring that I'm properly rested. We are so truly blessed...
Again, thank you, each and everyone, for keeping us in your prayers. I am witnessing the powerful results firsthand, for my family and myself, and had to share this exceedingly good news with you. You have touched several lives over the last few days, and made us better for it. We offer you our eternal gratitude!
Kindest FReegards,
TheWriter
Thanks for the update, and may the blessings continue...
I'm glad to see everything is working out. Thanks for keeping us posted, and hang in there.
Wow how nice you're going to be able to bring the little one home ahead of schedule.
You think they'll up your "kangaroo" time? Surely she would positively thrive!!

Just so you know it's possible to raise a healthy preemie: 22 years ago I gave birth to a 5 lb. boy, 5 wks early. Today, he is 6,5" tall, weighs 265, has an 18 1/2 inch neck and a 36 inch waist.
Once they start growing, they catch up quickly.
I will say a special prayer for Skylar, that she doesn't turn into a 6'5" with an 18 1/2 inch neck.
