I am a Muslim Woman

My name is Furi Setio Rini and I am a Muslim woman. I am 20 years old and live in Jakarta, Indonesia. I am attending my third year of medical school at Trisatki University. My friend, Ronin, asked me to write this because he is very disturbed about the hatred of Islam that he is seeing on your board.

What can I say about me? Well, I think I am an average Indonesian girl. I like movies and music. I love to shop for new clothes. Sometimes I eat too much. I do not like the music that is too loud. I don't like politics and I don't understand them.

I have to laugh when I hear western people talk about Muslim women. Somehow they think that all of us are beaten by men and treated like animals. If you had ever seen my father, my brothers and me, running away from my mother when she was angry, you would know how silly that is.

I have never worn a veil. I wear make up and I use lipstick. Except on the days I go to Mosque. On those days I clean myself as much as I can. I do not believe that it makes much difference to God, but I want him to see me with my true face, and heart.

I have two brothers. One of them is older, the other is younger than me. I guess that they are like brothers everywhere. Sometimes I love them. Sometimes I hate them. Sometimes I wish I could kill them. But no, that is a lie. Even when I think I hate them, I love them. They are my brothers, my family. I love and respect my father and my mother. I adore my father and hope to find a husband just like him.

I have not been kissed yet. And I have not been held as a woman wants to be held. Yes, I want it. Yes, I dream about it. But I can wait until I find the man I will marry. And no -- it will not be a marriage arranged by my parents. I will choose my husband, and he will choose me. We will marry because we love each other and want to spend the rest of our lives with each other. God willing.

I am studying to be a doctor. It is my best dream and ambition to be a doctor in a small village where doctors are rare. I want to be able to help the most common people of my country. I want to make life better for them. I want to bring happy and healthy babies to loving mothers and proud fathers. I want to give comfort to the old people who have so much to teach us. I want to share my love with true and real results.

I am not perfect. I am quite lazy sometimes and I have to force myself to studies on days when it is too hot, or at times when there are so many other interesting things to do. But this is a story about Muslim women, so maybe I should talk about that a little. What is Islam to me? This is a question that is very hard for me to answer. Islam is in my blood. I pray to God each day. I ask for health and happiness for my family, my friends and my country. More than that I cannot say. I love God and I pray to Him daily. . Is that any different from you?

I pray to God each day for wisdom. But the newspapers and the television and the radio shows me nothing but images I do not want to see. I can't stand the pictures I see.

I hate it almost as much as I hate pediatrics class. Not because I hate newborn babies, I love them. I want my own babies. But, I hate learning about the illnesses and the horrible conditions that can happen when a baby gets sick.

My heart cries. Sometimes, just opening the textbook is a horror. To see a stillborn baby makes a small death inside me. But I must learn, because if I cannot learn to treat them and make them well, more babies may die. I cannot think of anything worse.

I think that most Indonesian girls are like me. And, most Indonesian boys are like boys everywhere. They like cars and sports. They play music too loud. When they think they are so cool and exciting, they are usually very boring. The television and radio you see is not showing you the proper vision of my country or my people. We live and we love. We go to restaurants, movies, and clubs.

I do not drink alcohol, but I do not find that a hardship. (I did have a glass of red wine once. It did not taste very good.) My father and my brother smoke cigarettes, but I don't. No, we do not eat pork.

Men say that the words of God are in the Holy Quran, the Christian Bible and in the Jewish books. I do not know about that. I read the Holy Quran and try to live my life in the teachings that it contains. But inside my heart I know the only commandment of God is love. I love God. And I know that God is love.

Please ask her if she has any thoughts she can share with us about Al-Qaeda and the 5,000 WTC dead. She did not mention that matter at all.

Does she know about East Timor, or that westerners are fleeing from her country because they fear her co-religionists?

Or about the more than a million ethnic Chinese and several hundred thousand Christians who've been slaughtered in the brutally-murderously Javanese-muslim-conquered and colonized former Netherlands East Indies that she and her fellow Javanese call "Indonesia?"

Or of the hundreds of Ethnic Chinese and Sulaweseans and Balinese and Timorese Catholics Irian Jaya Christians and Achehan -- and every other kind of former-Netherlands-East-Indies Christian or Hindu or Buddhist or Animist -- or you-name-it -- non-"islamic" woman who was and/or is being raped and tortured and brutally "female-circumcised" and forced to "convert" to your female character's "religion."

Last year. Last month. Last week. Yesterday Today, tomorrow -- and until America's Crusades-like war [AKA World War IV (We've already fought and won the other three!)] against islamic terrorism [Already just a few kilometres away in Zamboanga del Norte and Sulu and Jolo] reaches into Indonesia and puts a stop to the islamic-Javanese butchery, too.

This piece is Joe-Goebells-like "Tokyo-Ronin" bullshit and is a bloody insult to the intelligence -- not to mention to the Moral Integrity -- of every AMERICA-LOVING FRee Republican!

How Sad that Muslims in America--especially refugees from "Muslim Nations"--who have managed to avail themselves of the benefits of our society, feel compelled to denigrate us, even as they prosper in our society.

Their attitude bespeaks a SERIOUS psychopathology.

Our "Tolerant" culture is--only now--beginning to understand the "Ramifications" of this hateful cultural abberration.

We are at Great Peril, but our natural cultural generosity & tolerance now imperil our survival. We MUST soon isolate & remove those who hate us who operate within our own society.

"Free Speech" is NOT an open-ended condition free of consequences!

it is that failure of the nice Moslems, not the excesses of the wicked ones, that has lead me to conclude that Islam is something to be vanquished.

Last I heard, there are Turkish Special Forces guys in Afghanistan helping our guys. Odds are, of the 90 they sent, probably at least 89 of them are Muslim. They're on our side, and they are helping us. And you do NOT want to P.O. a Turkish commando. It will be the last bad move you ever make.

It is time for American Muslims and Muslims who want us to refrain from killing them to denounce murder, terrorism, and destructive acts against any country or people by people claiming to represent Islam. (THey do it to their OWN FOLKS TOO. Witness the Taliban's cruelties against their own--and I don't just mean those committed because of strict interpretation of Muslim Law. Muslim law also says that Muslims must not kill Muslims. But an awful lot of that has gone on.)

Iraq has gassed Muslim Kurds, and killed a lot of Muslim Kuwaitis and Muslim Iranians. That is in direct violation of Islamic law--and that doesn't just come from a dubious Hadith such as the Taliban use.

If Islam does not repudiate terrorism, it is in effect embracing terrorism. And if they do that, and continue on the dangerous path they are now on, they will all fall together. I would like to think that Turkey as a nation AND the Turkish people will stay on our side if we have to nuke somebody over there. But it is MUSLIMS who are starting this fight. We may have made some mistakes that made them legitimately angry with us, but we didn't decide to kill their noncombatants wholesale like Al-Quada decided to do to us.

It's lovely that this young woman enjoys so many Western-style freedoms. Time for her to back up her praise of those ways with a statement that she supports our right to live and worship when, how, and Whom we will. I hate to say it, but Islam without Western influence is NOT a very girl-friendly culture. Everything this young lady is praising and showing as evidence for how wonderful Islam in Indonesia is, comes from OUR influence, not Fatwas.

I declare that 9/11 comes across to Americans as an attack against us from Islam. We have a lot of nutty Muslims here screaming that Thanksgiving is evil. A lot of nutty Muslims around the world think we should die just for the crime of being this big, friendly, open, clumsy, gracious, advanced nation. Like a good big dog, we sometimes step on some toes. Like a good big dog, we're also fiercely protective of our friends and dangerous as heck to our enemies. This essay by your young ladyfriend IS NOT a convincing way to say, "Down, boy!"

Ask her what she'd think if someone came into Jakarta and blew up her school, with all her friends and brothers in it. Ask her what she'd think if her nation's leaders were getting anthrax-laden mail--right after Christian leaders declared they would do this to Indonesians. If the shoe were on the other foot, I am positive Islam would not be feeding our hungry people or refraining from bombing civilian targets.

Islam started this. Yes, Islam as a whole. Because it wasn't policing itself, and because it shows no interest in doing so, it proves to the world that even its good people wink at evil.

The Crusades that have Muslims so upset ended 800 years ago. They apparently want to force us to start another one. Please remember: so far the extent of our meddling has consisted of allowing Jews to move in on a very, very small amount of the land in the MIddle East--and hardly the best piece. We can meddle a lot more if we are given sufficient reason to do so.

I submit to you that 9/11 was sufficient reason to meddle a whole lot. And if Islam doesn't address this en masse, you will all be punished together. I love the Turkish people. I love the Moroccans. I love the Indonesian and Pakistani and Filipino guest workers I met in Saudi Arabia. Wonderful, gracious people. The Saudis? A******s. Islam is letting them control their holy site, and that's as if we Mormons were letting the Clintons decide which of us can go into our temples. The very fact that the Saudis, the Iraqis, the Iranians, and yes, some Indonesian extremists are CONTROLLING Islam--to the point where "good" Muslims are dutifully protesting us when we've done them NOTHING BUT GOOD--is evidence to us FReepers that Islam is warring against us. There are no neutrals here. Remember Switzerland? Claimed to be neutral, helped the Nazis like CRAZY. I submit to you Ronin that if your lady won't stand with us, I mean DIRECTLY and with her whole heart, she's trying to be Switzerland. And we all know what comes of trying to sit on the fence. Eventually, fence-sitters end up with a sharp fencepost up their behinds.
