Could it be that the fighter jets saw the explosion? Seems to me they might have had a visual on it and the FBI is just getting this corroborated.
To: Osinski
I don't care if they keep telling us it wasn't a terrorist attack. I'll never believe them.

If this statement from the FBI regarding an explosion on board is true, this is not good. Ask yourself why the FBI at this point would make such a statement? Prior knowledge perhaps? I agree. But maybe not even prior knowledge...after the fact knowledge. Why else have divers searching, locking up the bay, closing tunnels? Reminds me of 9/11.

FoxNews just showed video of the "engine" on the concrete in fron tof the gas station. Clearly you could see the intake shroud, but not the engine itself. VelocityXmass says the engine went farther. Not enough damage there in the gas station. Betcha the engine is elsewhere.

Just because there is an explosion on board doesn't mean a bommb did it. Give me a Freakin break. That is the most likely cause!Hey, I'm just trying not to panic yet. My husband says an explosion could also be a fuel line leak. But I don't believe in coincidences, unfortunately, and this is too close to 9-11 for me.

"...i think they mean on board not the engine" Then why'd the wing/engine break off and fly a separate direction?

The majority of catastrophic engine and structural failures
do occur within a few minutes of takeoff, usually when the plane is climbing on maximum power, so this is consistent with that. The FBI's statement that there was an explosion on board is self-evident and tells us nothing. Eye-witnesses have already told us so.
On the other hand, there is the NY connection, the date and the current climate.
At the moment, flip a coin.

Good post. Good chance it is mechanical, however the huge irony (coincident) to me is that it happens again in NYC and was outbound. Still could more than likely be mechanical.

Why don't people awake and see the obvious? Ah, I don't know. Uhm... because they're asleep? Because they're oblivious to the obvious? Because they're envious of the studious? Because they're not curious of the dubious? Because they're already awake? Because they can't take what's at stake? Or is it because they quake at being awake? (We could go on.)
If you ask this guy, he'll tell you it has been obvious that Stephen King had murdered John Lennon and that Richard Nixon was involved. There is a dead dog in the story and an airplane crash. It's all obvious if you're not oblivious! Oh yes, and awake too.

Yeah, and I loved my last trip to San Juan. The AA folks had 8 check in agents open. When over 100 people got in line (including myself) they closed 5 of them insuring some people would miss their flights. This was before 911 so I'm sure security has increased their dramatically </sarcasm off....
My only concern about this is that it will be revealed that "unidentified airport employees" suddenly dissappear at JFK. And that just points to the total incompetency of the FAA and the airlines. There should have been a total round up of all foreign nationals who were employed at U.S. airports and a suspension from employment until FULL background checks could be completed. Anyone who doesn't check out, gets shipped out. But no, we can't let the airlines and airports lose these quality burger flipper employees. God knows, I'm sure they could identify C4 or some other explosives it showed up on their detectors. Just like they did all that mace in Chicago.

On MSNBC earlier -- local news coverage interviewed Rockaway eyewitness who said emphatically that there was a fire NEAR the engine, that the engine detached and the wing separated from the plane.

If I remember correctly, there have been reports of box cutters being found under seats prior to take off indicating that accomplices are "insiders". If you were a terrorist planning on using planes for destruction, it would be easy to get sleeprs involved in various jobs at the airport including the mechanical area. I ain't flying anytime soon.

A midair or bomb are very unlikely causessThen you better tell the FBI and Bush that they are wrong.
The FBI has said that they believe that a explosion was the cause of this "accident."
When you take into account that no plane in recent history has ever accidentally crashed into a major city, then you're assumption that a bomb did not cause this tragedy is even more ludicrous.

It's almost anti-American to be against immigration. You obviously equate "immigration" to "let's throw open the doors and let in anyone and everyone who wants to troop in and take a dump on America."
That's anti-American, you nitwit. Though I'm sure you think you sound "enlightened" and all.

We need those federal workers You said the magic word--Federal. Federal is always better. Just look at the fabulous job the Federal INS has done.

It's Peter Jennings with his "no evidence of terrorism" BS Petie is just trying to clear his terrorist buddies before they are charged.

I sure hope someone in the media gets Chelsea's response to this tragedy. I can't wait to hear it.

Prior knowledge perhaps?Probably the same FBI mole who's been spreading disinformation and anti-Bush spin to his/her liberal press contacts. I say we smoke 'em out.
