I am watching "Private Ryan," on ABC, I think. Dumb me---I didn't think that "sh*t" was used in prime time. Or "g.d." But the F word!!???!!.................nothing follows.

This is apparently a very seldom occasion that it's happening. Eisner introduced the movie and mentioned the fact that foul language and extreme violence would be seen now, otherwise this movie could not be seen on prime time tv just due to even the violence and bloodshed.

The original Adam Weisshaupt is mentioned in this article, about halfway down: </a href>

I'm not watching Private Ryan, since I remember when the movie came out, a reporter asked Tom Hanks to pose in front of an American flag, and he refused. He wasn't a gung-ho patriot then.

I'm watching the JAG marathon on USA Network.

Why, then, has Hanks put on this huge campaign to get a WW2 memorial in washinton?

Grow up. Only children buy that "sex is natural, sex is good, so let's talk about it all the time, everywhere" crap.

Did you miss the F word slipped into the premiere of NYPD Blue last week? I didn't! :)

I disagree with Hanks on most everything, but he has done right by the WWII vets. He stated that SPR was patriotic like Memorial Day is patriotic, not like 4th of July is patriotic. Both are worthy.

Talk to some teenagers sometime. You will discover that they are totally unaware that F*** and S*** were once simply not heard on American streets, in stores, on the radio and TV. They were heard only in pool halls and some lower-class bars, and other more disreputable places. There probably WERE many soldiers who went through WWI and even WWII without saying these words. Americans under 40 or so simply have no idea of the horror with which previous generations of Americans viewed four-letter words.

The movie, Deer Hunter, aired on TV years ago -- uncut. The "F" word was used rather frequently in that movie. I do not believe that Spielberg made that one, did he?

Bottom line: Normal censorship rules are occasionally set aside with warnings to the viewing public.

I think SPR should be required viewing by all high school students. Helps them to understand the sacrifices that others made so they can have Nintendo, rap music and premarital sex.

Gimme a break. Let the Germans make a movie from THEIR perspective. SPR is historically accurate and a fair depiction of battle.

I 'spose you will want to speak up for the Taliban, too, soon.

Sorry, I don't need government to ensure that my children are not exposed to profanity. I can do that all by myself.

Sure you can. I bet you home school them so they aren't exposed to profanity and pro-gay anti-Christian values at school, and chaperone them on dates.

Hell, I bet you don't need Government to protect you from terrorist's either.

My hat's off.

I have heard almost zero about it, but in the fund-raising thing done after Sept 11---the first one, I believe, with Julia Roberts, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, and NO American flags or patriotic symbols---Hanks reciting the Pledge of Allegiance omitted "under God." That is unacceptable. But typical.

The things Hanks and Brokaw and others do to honor the WWII generation are just self-serving.

Praising the greatest generation, or building monuments to them just amount to LIP SERVICE when you consider that Hanks supported and contributed to Clinton and is just another one of the Hollywood far-left. Brokaw pays lip service to our parents, yet then spends his every workday preparing for his thirty minute opportunity to attack and undermine his nation and propagandize his left-wing beliefs.

Just us bad old Christians trying to impose our horrible morality on everyone else.

Yep. Pretty much covers it.

It doesn't bother me at all--I happen to like this movie and I would have hated to see it chopped up and censored.
I think it should be mandatory for every one of those idiots throughout this country who refuse to Pledge Allegiance or who think our flag is oppressive watch movies like this, Band of Brothers or any other great flick that depicts the reality of what our brave soldiers faced.
Just my humble opinion.

It's okay when referring to network TV.
