BRADY E-ACTION RESPONSE NETWORK ALERT

Issue: 17 - 11/8/2001
November 8, 2001
Dear Friends,
Regretfully, I must report to you that in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks on America, we have been forced to make significant cut backs in our programs, threatening our ability to fight for a safer America.
As I'm sure you know, fundraising for just about every non-profit organization in the country has been seriously crippled as donors nationwide have mourned the loss of more than 6,000 precious lives and have rightly focused on helping the victims of the tragedy.
The Brady Campaign and Brady Center have not been exempt from this sharp downturn in contributions from the public. Consequently, our ability to meet the challenges before us has been severely curtailed. We desperately need your help now more than ever. Fortunately for us and for America, your gift can be worth 50 percent more, if given within the next 30 days.
A generous donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has issued a challenge to our members and supporters. For every dollar contributed, up to $200,000 in the next 30 days, a 50 percent match will be made. For example, a gift of $50 will be worth $75 with our donor's gift. Through this matching gift, your donation is worth more than ever. Please help us take advantage of this opportunity at this critical time when so much is at stake for our country.
Go to http://www.bradycampaign.org/donate today and make your gift worth even more!
There is compelling evidence that terrorists are stockpiling high-powered weapons and ammunition obtained from unregulated gun markets in this country, such as gun shows. These weapons can be used against Americans here at home, smuggled abroad and resold at a profit to buy materials for mass destruction.
In fact, the day before terrorist pilots were committing suicide by crashing jetliners into American buildings, Ali Boumelhem was being convicted in a Detroit courtroom of conspiring to illegally ship shotguns, assault weapons, ammunition and other items bought at Michigan gun shows to Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon.
This is why the Brady Campaign is aggressively pushing for new legislation to add three gun safety measures to anti-terrorist efforts being undertaken by Congress and the Justice Department.
Gun Safety Measure #1: Comprehensive criminal background checks for absolutely all gun purchases, whether they are made at licensed gun dealers, gun shows, flea markets or through classified ads.
Gun Safety Measure #2: Permanent retention of all firearm sales records to ensure that law-enforcement officials can track terrorists, trace their weapons, and know what threats they are facing when they attempt to apprehend these criminals.
Gun Safety Measure #3: Increase identity verification by requiring two forms of valid I.D. and proof of residency.
This is our immediate agenda, and I must tell you that that our financial shortfall is seriously jeopardizing our ability to meet this challenge. In fact, as a part of our forced downsizing and restructuring, we have been forced to lay off approximately 20 percent of our staff.
Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association, with its deep pockets, continues to try to exploit the September terrorist attacks as a reason to buy more guns. But, we cannot let the gun lobby win the day.
Please go to http://www.bradycampaign.org/donate now and give the most generous contribution you possibly can.
We cannot let the terrorists intimidate us, nor let the NRA and the gun industry win. We must move forward. And to do that, we are dependent upon you and all of our members and supporters. Thank you for your helping during these difficult times.
Warm Regards,
Sarah Brady
Chair
These people are obviously in dire straights, and will do anything to keep their idiotic cause from collapsing altogether.
What eveidence? Put up or shut up, Sarah!
Why do they wish to remain anonymous? Are they rightfully embarassed to support these gun Nazi's?
There is compelling evidence that terrorists are stockpiling high-powered weapons and ammunition obtained from unregulated gun markets in this country, such as gun shows.
Prove it, let's see the evidence. They can sneak in all the automatic weapons they want across our wide open borders, why bother with trying to sneak around gun shows.
These weapons can be used against Americans here at home, smuggled abroad and resold at a profit to buy materials for mass destruction.
So gun shows are now responsible for nuclear proliferation? LOL. They are getting desperate!
Yeah, yeah, read this Sarah:
Desperate effort to resurrect its gun show legislation

It's all to stop the terrorists, lol. Just like "do it for the children". What a load.
This is our immediate agenda, and I must tell you that that our financial shortfall is seriously jeopardizing our ability to meet this challenge. In fact, as a part of our forced downsizing and restructuring, we have been forced to lay off approximately 20 percent of our staff.
We won't be satisfied until 100% of your staff is gone. :)
Meanwhile, the National Rifle Association, with its deep pockets, continues to try to exploit the September terrorist attacks as a reason to buy more guns. But, we cannot let the gun lobby win the day.
Oh and you're NOT? Your own letter is full of it. See above.
These people are scary. If they had their way we would be totally powerless to stop terrorists in this country. More guns in the hands of responsible citizens = increased safety.
HCI is admitting now that it is largely funded by rich commies; that's what the above means!
How much of HCI's budget comes out of small donations - and how much from leftist foundations and commie grandees? Is HCI a "grassroots" anything in any sense - like the NRA's main strength is its millions of grassroots members who it can mobilize to hound politicians before crucial votes?
Scandals of antigun politicians and activists - from coast to coast
Not to mention that thousands of Americans have bought their first guns in response to 911, as they realized that people need to learn to be responsible for their own safety :)
Poor MMM < g >
I hope they will be held to the rules set by VISA.

The state level lobbyist, Bill Davis, takes his marching orders directly from Kozuch. If Kozuch told him to kiss Sara Brady's a$$ he would.
Hey, Arkansas doesn't have anything on VA now! Mark Warner is slicker than Bill Clinton, keep an eye on this guy! He's Bill Clinton with a bank account.

Gun Control Decisive in McGreevey Win in New Jersey; NRA Suffers Defeat in Virginia
(Washington, D.C.) In victories for supporters of responsible gun laws, and defeats for the National Rifle Association (NRA), voters in New Jersey and Virginia yesterday elected candidates for governor who support sensible gun safety legislation.
"The victories by Jim McGreevey in New Jersey and Mark Warner in Virginia demonstrate once again that our nation's citizens want common-sense gun laws and they want elected officials who will preserve them," said Sarah Brady, Chair of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, united with the Million Mom March, who endorsed McGreevey. "In the only two gubernatorial elections in the nation, the NRA-backed candidates lost. Jim McGreevey's victory in particular proves that supporting responsible gun laws is not just good public policy, it is good politics as well."
In New Jersey, McGreevey made gun control a centerpiece of his campaign, repeatedly citing the extreme views of his opponent, Bret Schundler, on concealed weapons legislation and handgun licensing and registration. Just last week, Mrs. Brady recorded a radio ad for McGreevey that contrasted his strong leadership on gun control with Schundler's opposition. "Bret Schundler's position on guns is so out of touch with New Jersey, even members of his own party have called him an extremist," Mrs. Brady said in the ad, paid for Ceasefire New Jersey.
In analyzing the huge win for McGreevey, Mrs. Brady said: "New Jersey has been at the forefront of the national gun control movement for many years, and voters supported Jim McGreevey because they knew he is a proven leader who will fight to protect New Jersey's strong gun laws. They were not about to take a chance on Bret Schundler."
In Virginia, Warner did not highlight his support for gun safety legislation, but his public stands on the issue made him clearly the better candidate, leading the Brady Campaign and Million Mom March to send out an e-mail alert last week to thousands of supporters urging them to vote for Warner.
"Mark Warner supports upholding Virginia's gun laws -- including the landmark one-gun-a-month statute that has been instrumental in reducing gun trafficking -- and the law that prevents carrying concealed weapons in bars and restaurants," said Mrs. Brady.
While many news reports have focused on Warner's "courting" of the NRA, the fact is that he received a "C" rating from the group and his opponent, Mark Earley, was given an "A-." The NRA did not officially endorse Earley but it sent out strong letters of support to its members: "We believe the differences between the candidates are substantial and that Mark Earley is the best candidate for NRA Members in Virginia." Mrs. Brady said that Warner was able to make inroads with sportsmen and hunters in Virginia because so many of them do not follow the extremist positions of the NRA.
Another supporter of sensible gun laws, Tim Kaine, was elected lieutenant governor of Virginia. He touted his record, while Mayor of Richmond, of enforcing and strengthening Virginia's gun laws, including the city's "Project Exile" program.
Yesterday's victories continued a trend begun last year, when, despite outspending the gun-control movement by a margin of 5-1, the NRA lost five of the top seven U.S. Senate candidates it backed with independent expenditures, and seven of the top nine House races it targeted. In contrast, the Brady Campaign succeeded in defeating nine out of 12 "Dangerous Dozen" candidates it targeted.
"By continuing to make our voices heard loud and clear, voters can elect enough public officials who will act to ensure an America where all can live free from gun violence -- at home, at school, at work, and in our communities," said Mrs. Brady.
Absolutely. We all need to get to those gun shows to buy up all those nasty guns before the terrorists get to them first.
I think Sarah Brady should not be allowed to eat without my written approval.
