"Veteran's Day--What will YOU be doing???"
11/8/01 | Some guy in Utah

Posted on 11/08/2001 8:37:49 PM PST by redrock

In just a few days VETERAN'S DAY will be here.

In this current wave of Patriotism.....a question comes up.

What will YOU do this VETERAN'S DAY to show those who have put their lives, and are currently putting their lives, "on the line" that you appreciate what they have done...and what they are doing??

Will you finally find that Viet Vet and tell him/her "WELCOME HOME!!"??

Will you take your children to a Veteran's Hospital...and listen to an aging WWII Vet tell you of his days???

Will you tell your Father...Uncle...Brother...that you are glad they made it home from the frozen Korean landscape???

It's only a few days to "VETERAN'S DAY"..........

Make it count.

My husband and I will attend Mass, light candles, then go to the cemetary to place flags on the graves of my WWII veteran father, and several other veteran relatives.

"For Rocky Versace!!!!"

With any luck, Captain Humbert Roque "Rocky" Versace will have his Medal of Honor by this time next year.

I'll drink to that!

I'll be taking the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) as part of my Guard duty which I will have all weekend.

I really need a day off, but I can't even see one on the horizon with binoculars...

I am so glad you posted this redrock.Good idea to post it ahead of time so people can make plans to visit the VA and Vets and parades and thank s VET.

Also oh shoot I wish I knew how to make the letter larger. But there is this too.

Many of the VA hospitals will let you take some of the Vets there for an outing. To eat or a movie or to your home for a nice home cooked meal . It is wonderful and special friendships can be made too.

Then there are the Parades, Patriotic picnic's, taking groceries to needy vets that are shut-ins.

There are so many things and so many ways to say thank you and MEAN IT !

Thanks again redrock for all you do.

I will do what I normally do ... work. Aside from that I will make a phone call as I normally do to a "brother" who served, as I, in RVN and we will each thank each other for being faithful and serving and surviving. I will stand at attention and snap a still sharp hand salute to the flag in front of my house and shed a tear for those no longer present.

This year I am sure I will spend a few more moments in quiet meditation and prayer for those who are presently serving and willing to sacrifice everything for "principles" that are much greater than so many of the ungrateful people enjoying a free life under those principles can ever begin to comprehend.

I will thank God for all He has provided and I will quietly "truck on".

I will be attending church, where there will be a patriotic celebration, going to the cemetery, where we will be laying wreathes on the graves of my veteran ancestors, and watching some football in the evening.

I like your new name..."Some guy in Utah".

Well, I go to the VA all too often I'm afraid. (having said that, the care, compared to 20 years ago is excellent).

I (we) used to make a pilgramage to "The Wall" every 11/11. Haven't been in quite a while. I miss it.

God Bless our military in their fight against the Evil One. Wish I was there.

Oh, and God Bless America and President Bush.

Bump!
Somehow the Veterans Day Parade here in West LA was held yesterday (the 8th)...only found
out late Thursday, after the fact.

But for lurkers in North Central Oklahoma, my old hometown of Ponca City will be having
their parade tomorrow (Saturday). Don't know the start time, but would expect sometime
around 9-10 AM for the start.

Our Pastor has this print in his office.
Searching for it online is what first led me to FR.
I forget who posted but I'm grateful to whoever it was and to all our brave Veterans.
Never forget, honor our veterans this weekend.
