Talk show host Tom Sullivan just reported that during a press conference Gov. Davis said he was notified that there is evidence that terrorists plan to target the Coronado Bridge (San Diego), the Golden Gate & Bay Bridges (San Francisco) and an LA Bridge (didn't catch the name) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 2nd.

Apologies for my screw up on the docking of LPH's, etc. I'm glad you all are here to keep things accurate.

I don't think that was the same bridge, but you could very well be right. My sister and family live in Santa Clarita. Her husband traveled to Burbank. I think the bridge was off the 5 if I'm not mistaken. Sound like the Antelope Valley Bridge area? Thanks.

Hey no big thang.

Fox News...John Gibson just now said that Gov. Gray has just told them about the four bridges...so it is true
You guys are just mad because Bush isn't acting like half the man Mr. Roge...I mean Gray Davis has become....

Wrong. Other than the carriers at North Island Air Station, the bulk of the fleet are Naval Station San Diego south of the bridge. Wish I had a dollar for every time I went under that thing heading out to sea. You are correct. I just talked to my Navy son who is based at the North Island Navy base. I stand corrected, except for the fact that the carriers definitely do NOT go south of the bridge.
One more tidbit, he informs me, is that if the bridge ever crashed (terrorist or not), the middle sections were intentionally made to "float" so all they have to do is tow them out of the way, hence no water traffic would be blocked.

OK, let's see if I can name them:
Golden Gate, Bay Bridge, San Mateo Bridge, Dumbarton Bridge, Benicia Bridge, Richmond/San Rafael Bridge, Carquinez Bridge.
That's seven. Of course, they're ALL covered with pork fat.

I know I was simplifying things...while there are only toll booths on the one side, the other side could be screened before allowing passage....and the Coast guard could patrol the pierings below. I am sure that Osama with his engineering knowledge and connections already has mapped the weak points of the bridge and the terrorists have their alternative plans.
All of this will sure slow down traffic, but no more than a DJ's antics have caused in the past.
I know that the "authorities" are probably brainstorming the solution as we speak. They will have to err on the side of reasonable caution, rather than our driving comfort.

OK, Fox just reporting this, so it's confirmed there.Don't tell Illbay, because he wouldn't believe you anyway. < /sarcasm off >

Cool thing, too: Those navy tugs are some BADASS little powerhouses!

Don't you remember "The Rockford Files?" James Garner used to drive wildly up and down those twisting roads until the bad guys drove over the cliff and wound up in a ball of flames. All that footage was shot around LA. How about "Gone in 60 seconds" ... for a more recent movie using the bridges to the LA harbor and "scenic" Terminal Island.

All true. Now, don't you wish that the NAS Alameda was still working...?!
After the 89 quake, the Bay Bridge was out of commission for, what, a month? This is also an excellent telecommuting area. (And, G-d forbid they mess with the crush up in Napa!)

Very true . Anything that prevents the passage of personnel and money , communications . very prime targets , especially in a free republic .

I did hear confirmation on the radio news this evening, that Gray-out Davis had announced this planned attack that they somehow got some intelligence concerning.
Not sure if it was wise of him to do that, but it's "water under the bridge," so to speak.

HAH! We got a new captain...FROM TEXAS.. and once on a friday afternoon, he was on the bridge and he said, "Let's get these men home early, they've earned it." and he basically said, "FLOOR IT!" and we were HAULING ass from the shores of Camp Pendleton to San Diego. I remember sitting on the side of mooring station 5 (the smoke-box) and I saw a 12 foot shark get PUSHED outta our way in our wake!
That guy was the best CO we ever had!
