The Rise of Babylon, by Charles H. Dyer with Angela Elwell Hunt Dyer points out Saddam Hussein's own plans to emulate King Nebuchadnezzar as evidenced in a commemorative medal he had cast with the ancient king's profile and his own side by side. In addition to the hanging gardens of Babylon and the unification of the surrounding nations, King Nebuchadnezzar is perhaps most noted for the sacking of Jerusalem and the captivity of the Jewish people. The author reveals how Hussein's followers already recognize him as today's equivalent of that ancient king: The tour guide at a reconstructed palace in Babylon described with enthusiasm the restored monument of the ancient city...she got to the throne room and pointed to the empty platform. "This is where the Saddam Hussein had his throne. This is where Saddam Hussein sat," she said, voice rising in pride. The short, stout woman looked around at the quizzical faces, then caught herself with a nervous laugh. "I mean Nebuchadnezzar... Nebuchadnezzar had his throne here." |

Saddam Hussein: The Last Great Tyrant By Robert Fisk Independent December 30, 2000 In Baghdad, the palace lawns are better tended, but the same sense of spent taste and vulgarity pervades the president's imagery. Saddam on horseback, in Kurdish clothes, embracing babies and war heroes, riding on a charger in medieval armour to confront the Persians at the Battle of Qaddasiyeh, dressed as Nebuchadnezzar, he who conquered Syria and Palestine, sacked Ashkelon and subdued all the tribes of the Arabs. Like the king of Babylonia, Saddam decided to rebuild Babylon; and so the ancient city was ripped apart and reconstructed, Disney-style, in the image of the great man. Even the giant egg-shell monument to the Iraqi war dead of 1980-88 is a personal museum to Saddam's family. Visit the crypt and besidethe names of half a million dead you find a photograph of the young, revolutionary Saddam, on the run from the royal family, of Saddam studying in Cairo (his hero was not Hitler but Stalin) |

For the biggest party, held in his native village of Audsha near Takrit, the president brought in 5,000 foreign guests, among them Arab and Eastern European politicians and intellectuals, but also 150 Russian athletes and two Armenian football teams.

by N.W. Hutchings In 1971, UNESCO announced that it would help Iraq completely restore the ancient city of Babylon. The reconstruction be under the general supervision of Saddam Hussein, who made his appearance in 1969 as the Iraqi strongman by hanging eight Jews on the streets of Baghdad as a warning for others to hit-the-road elsewhere. In 1978, 1 led a Southwest Radio Church tour of 103 to Iraq. One of the sites we visited was Babylon. There was a four-lane highway between Baghdad and Babylon with brick factories along the way turning out bricks for this tremendous reconstruction project. On one end of the brick was the name Nebuchadnezzar, and on the other end was the name Saddam Hussein who, then and now, envisions himself as a modern Nebuchadnezzar to restore the glory that was once Babylon's. |
Saddam hiding weapons in Babylon? German newspapers today published new disclosures on Iraq's military capabilities. The daily Bild reported that Saddam Hussein has hidden a large supply of nerve gas and biological weapons beneath the ruins of ancient Babylon, on the assumption that the U.S. would not dare to bomb the archaeological and historical site. "Babylon shall become a heap, Jeremiah 51:37. |

I wonder how many of our boys in foggy bottom and up the river know any of these factors which may be driving history?
The interesting paragraph in the article both in light of history and the present is this:
"But Hussein's glorification of ancient Babylon is disturbing to his neighbors, diplomats say. For the king whose palace he is rebuilding ruled an empire from the Persian Gulf to the Mediterranean, embracing what now are Kuwait, Syria, Jordan, Israel and parts of Saudia Arabia."
Boy, you can't swing a dead cat in the Middle East without hitting some nutcase claiming to be some past or present biblical character.
Where do they get this stuff?
They're only looking at part of the picture because Saddam does have a communist intellectual foundation. But, though he came to power in the 70s as a client of Leonid Brezhnev, Stalin was his idol.
he coincidences of the appearance of the pics of Hussein with the British boy and of Stalin in the poster in the article above are not simply by chance. That whole thing was Hussein's publicity stunt. He had control of the cameras and the angles.
Check it out... the boy with Saddam has the same haircut as the boy with the violin in the poster of Stalin!
But Hussein's Obsession with Nebuchadnezzar is paramount.
You only get ONE opportunity to choose Jesus - that's why you can only die one time!!
However, Saddam does believe he is the King of Babylon!
Sand between their toes must make them mean or something. ;^)

One important thing about statues [Daniel 2:31] is you can't have the head and shoulders in one place, [say Babylon] and it's legs and feet in another. [say Rome/Europe] - Jeremiah Jr
Easton's Dictionary
Dura. the circle, the plain near Babylon in which Nebuchadnezzar set up a golden image, mentioned in Dan. 3:1. The place still retains its ancient name. On one of its many mounds the pedestal of what must have been a colossal statue has been found. It has been supposed to be that of the golden image.
Al Daura is located just south of Baghdad. Same place?
Google search Daura + nuclear reactor + Israel
Google search Daura + Baghdad + gulf war
Daniel 8:9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the pleasant land.
I wonder who will replace Saddam?
The flags read: "There is no God but God and Mohammed is the messenger of God."
Muhammad said: "If you see the black flags coming from Khurasan (Afghanistan),
join that army, even if you have to crawl over ice,
for that is the army of the Imam al-Mahdi
and no one can stop that army until it reaches Jerusalem."
Nothing to see here, move along

But I have a question for youse guys???
Daniel 10
Vision of the Glorious Man
Daniel's Vision by the Great River
1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar. The message was true, but the appointed time was long; and he understood the message, and had understanding of the vision. 2In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. 3I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
4Now on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, that is, the Tigris, 5I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! 6His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like torches of fire, his arms and feet like burnished bronze in color, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.
7And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great terror fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. 8Therefore I was left alone when I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me; for my vigor was turned to frailty in me, and I retained no strength. 9Yet I heard the sound of his words; and while I heard the sound of his words I was in a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.
Prophecies Concerning Persia and Greece
10 Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11And he said to me, "O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you." While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling.
12Then he said to me, "Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 14Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come."
15When he had spoken such words to me, I turned my face toward the ground and became speechless. 16And suddenly, one having the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke, saying to him who stood before me, "My lord, because of the vision my sorrows have overwhelmed me, and I have retained no strength. 17For how can this servant of my lord talk with you, my lord? As for me, no strength remains in me now, nor is any breath left in me."
18Then again, the one having the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me. 19And he said, "O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace be to you; be strong, yes, be strong!"
So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me."
20Then he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come. 21But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Truth. (No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince.

Who is this guy?
Note the amazingly similar description in Revelation 1!
Aha! But...
... the [oil] well is everything.
About those 7 stars... are they sisters?
Revelation 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
The Torah sages wrote that Hashem "took two stars away from KIMAH and brought the flood!"
[6] For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.
[7] They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves.
Chaldea is southern Iraq.
There is evidence in the Bible that Nebuchadnezzar will return in a "ressurected" body, to use scriptural terminology. Saddam is not Nebuchadnezzar, but he is preparing the way for Nebuchadnezzar's return as the antchrist.
Revelation 17:10,11"[10] And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. [11] And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition."
The beast was. Now he is not(dead). But he is coming. He is the eighth king(future) and is of the seven kings(past) with the name of blasphemy.
Saddam does not prosper in his reign, so he is not Nebuchadnezzar. He is the leader who will stumble, fall and not be found IMO.
Daniel 11"[19] Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: but he shall stumble and fall, and not be found."
Saddam was quoted on CNN in 1990 or '91 saying that if he was defeated "you won't even get one piece of my finger" to the U.S. So eventually Saddam will be defeated, though it will be an awful battle where many shall fall, according to Daniel.
[20]"Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes in the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle."
The interim ruler raises taxes and dies after a short time. [21]"And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries." Then comes the vile person, who is Nebuchadnezzar in his resurrected body.
Daniel 4"[36] At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellers and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me." "[37]Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase."
Nebuchadnezzar recognized the God of heaven(and God revealed himself to Neb on several occasions). However, there is no record of repentance on behalf of Nebuchadnezzar though God dealt with him. Had Nebuchadnezzar repented he would have returned the vessels to the temple that he had stolen and would have allowed the Jews to worship at the temple. So Nebuchadnezzar died wickedly. And he shall return wickedly.
I realize that there are many opposing views on Bible prophecy, but I think you hit on something very interesting here. I hope you don't mind me sharing a bit of what I've been studying for about the last seven years. :)
