The article said it's going to be in the New Yorker Magazine, which last I looked, is in the USA. Ben Fenton, the reporter, is based in the USA.

Since this plan is only to be implemented IF Gen Musharraf is deposed, I would say this story could well be aimed towards either the Pak insurrectionists or the Indian government ...and yes I can think of some reasons it would be "leaked."

Given the way security has been handled by the administration, so far, there is NO way this would have seen the light of day if those in power didn't want it to be so.

Of course this story can also be the product of Mr Hersch's fertile imagination ...the press is constantly whining they can't get any information.

The reporter may be based in the US but the editors aren't.

Mr Hersch quoted a "senior military officer." This does not exclude Israeli military officers.

As for not making sense..someone with an ax to grind is not limited by nationality.

--a few points

1-surface level. Well, this is a "duh" not even close to a leak. I mean, let's get real, pakistan has nukes, a long history of coups, and they got a lot of mad jihaders over there-OF COURSE they would be thinking about 'what the heck could we do-what are the options?" in a series of 'what if..." scenarios. I've assumed since India blasted off theirs and pak followed suit that they been planning for something like this.

2-deeper level--it's looking more and more to me like the end game here is to contribute more and more to fractionalization in the middle east to institute a series of wars and coups to keep in place tame puppets-because if we don't do it, the chinese are going to do it, then they get the pinata.

3-even deeper-well, neutralization of any credible opposition domestically and implementation of the NWO two class society is fully on track. They need even more "losses" to finish off the job of scaring the US and British people enough to swallow complete fascism. this will have to happen with a few 'defeats" in the foreign war-whoops! loose nukes, etc- and more "domestic terror attacks", involving a lot more causalities and panic and fear than 911.
