ANTHRAX PROBE SHIFTS TO HOMEGROWN HATE GROUPS

Ultra-right-wing organizations - including a particular West Coast group - have become a key focus of the massive federal investigation into the murderous Anthrax attacks, The Post has learned.

Investigators have been zeroing in on members of several anti-government hate groups that they believe have obtained or attempted to get the deadly bacteria from several U.S.-based laboratories before it surfaced in Florida, Washington and New York this month.

Your post ("divide and conquer") is the closest to how I feel about this accusation. In addition to angry, sick and broken-hearted. My own father-in-law threw this at me, knowing I am a conservative. My God, have they no decency? Must they blame us for everything, even something as sick as this?

There is MORE than enough evidence that Atta went to Prague, got the anthrax, distributed it to others and perhaps even sent out the first shipments himself, then left orders for others to follow after 9-11? Why isn't this scenario -- far more plausible -- being put out there? How would Militia groups get anthrax, being basically defensive? How would they know to send it out before the 9-11 attack? Even if they thought of doing it right afterward, how would they have obtained and processed and targeted the mailings so fast? This story does not hold up to the most basic scrutiny.

The US Media is truly disgusting. I am literally SICK over this story.

Again, I am in agreement.

Suppose sender of anthrax letters took Saudia flight from Saudi Arabia to New York. He enters the US with a forged Yemini passport. The passport never been used before and there is no connection to the assumed name from any other terrorist operation. He also has credit cards, driver's license, etc.

Then he rents a car from Hertz and drives to Brooklyn. There he purchases pre-stamped envelopes at a post office in a neighborhood with a primarilly Middle Eastern population. He then writes the letters in question on paper he obtained at any stationary store. He then opens his bottle of colone, toothpaste tube, can of shaving creme or other container containing the anthrax and places the spores within the letters. He then places the letters inside a "baggie." The entire transfer could take place in the sink of a cheap motel room. He then washes the sink very well with commercially available bleach.

The motel, paper and envelopes were purchased with cash.

He then drives to Trenton, NJ. His trip would take about 3 hours at most. He eats at fast food drive-throughs. The trip would be easy, although he avoids the NJ Turnpike so his license number is never recorded by a toll booth camera. Upon arriving in Trenton, he then deposits his anthrax laden letters in a street corner mailbox. He replaces the baggie in the car. He then returns to New York, purchases five gallons of gasoline and completely burns the car, inside and out. Also consumed by the fire are the baggie, original anthrax container, his gloves, disposable biohazard suit, etc. He is never worried about contracting anthrax because he has been taking a heavy propholactic dose of Cipro for more than a week.

He then takes public transportation back to JFK and boards the next flight to Saudi Arabia. His total time in the US; less than 28 hours. Upon arriving in Saudi Arabia, he clears customs then burns the phony passport and all other items containing that name.

By that time, the NYC Department of Sanitation has towed the burned out car, like they do 80 burned out cars every day, to its junkyard and begins the 10 day process of notifying Hertz. The baggie, gasoline jug and bioharard suit and remaining spores were consumed in the fire and are never noticed.

He then returns to Afganistan, where he reports his success, which by now is beginning to be covered by CNN. Senior Bin Laden representatives shoot him and burn his body. He is glad to die for Allah.

He never existed. His case is not solvable.

What case?

The next day, a man boards a flight in Manila.....

I think the fact that letters were used that jump out at us indicates that the real target here was the mail system; they (whoever is behind it) wanted to disrupt the mail system.

And to have the disruption extremely well-publicized. Hence the simultaneous attack on the media and our seat of government.

Striking at the mail system is a strike into everyone's home and/or business. A U.S. citizen can avoid coming into contact with a majority of government agencies, programs, etc., for much of the year, but one government entity that every single person in this country comes into contact on a daily basis is the USPS.

I would feel a lot better if we hadn't dropped a single food packet, carpet bombed Kabul, and in general tried to convince the Islamic people, not that we are nice, but we are indeed the Great Satan, the biggest baddest bit of news they can imagine.

I agree. We will never convince these pagans to 'like' us; but we can convince them to respect us -- and that is what we should be doing. Remember the vast majority of these pagans are not dumb enough to believe in the '72-virgins' nonsense. The only thing that will stop them is seeing their friends vaporized and thinking it could be them next. Then it will stop -- and not before.

OK. Think about this for a minute. The letters that have been released are POSTMARKED Sept. 11. I'm sure the bar-coding tells the time of day that the postmark was applied (morning, afternoon, evening) and the Post Office knows the time of day that the mailboxes were emptied. The hijackers were successful in hijacking the earliest flights on Sept. 11. It seems to me that the envelopes were mailed the evening of Sept. 10, or that someone else dropped them into the mail.

All this points directly to the hijackers -- not some radical, home-grown group. Everyone here would have been in too much shock to have co-ordinated this attack to conincide with Bin Laden's attack on the WTC.

IMHO, I think that all this press given to "home grown terrorist groups" is just disinformation so that the American public becomes confused and doesn't demand that we go after Hussein before Bush is ready.

Here's where your hypothesis falls apart. All flights in/out of NYC were grounded for days. I think this was accomplished by the hijackers themselves, or one of their compatriots that they left behind. Remember all of the Middle Easterners who suddenly fled the country in the week after the attack? And there would be no record of anyone who managed to cross either the Canadian or Mexican border on foot.

Pat is tame compared to the far right. The REAL 'far right' is more akin to the wackos who were posting in the weeks prior to the WTC explosion. Pro-Palestinian but with a weird, very blatant Aryan-Christian twist, judging from some of the sites they linked to. Remember them?

Here's an example.

(I apologize is the link is inappropriate. It is for educational purposes only.)

Re:your except from "Mena"

I thought we hadn't had a case of inhaled anthrax in the US in 30 years. Are you telling me that our government is lying or that our news media is inaccurate?

You're right! The clintons gave us "right wing extremists" for political purposes. They had the fib in their pocket, then, they still do.

Commercial aircraft were grounded for 3 days and were flying again long before letters were mailed from Trenton.

Is there some type of bad blood between aheadnews.com and Free Republic?

Well, we've outed them as completely bogus, have kicked the moron who runs aheadnews.com off the forum multiple times and prohibited posts from aheadnews from being posted here. Other than that, I can't imagine why there's bad blood between us...

After all, if there is no fear of retaliation, why wouldn't they go whole hog?

Because a deterrent is of no value after you've used it. Saddam has presented Bush with a choice. If Bush points the finger at him for 9/11 and tries to remove him from power, Saddam will give his agents the go ahead to aerosolize that anthrax. If we leave him be, the anthrax attacks will go away and our government can take care of the PR aspects in the usual fashion.

Well, aheadnews.com and etherzone tried to peddle that conclusion and have since pulled the story. Maybe you should apply there as a writer at aheadnews - wouldn't want your good name associated with all of us terroristic freepers.

What a cretin.

I have a concern that some isolated domestic group could combine efforts with ME terror groups in the US.

So for that reason I can understand the FBI looking into some domestic groups.

But the FBI has been used in the past to falsely discredit domestic groups ("vast right wing conspiracy") who were just critics of socialists, left wing liberals, of bad FBI policies, of Clinton and of corrupt people in the government who were not adhering to the COnstituion.
