As we are all aware, Berkeley, California, has long been a hotbed of anti-American, leftist hate. However, on October 24th, 2001, over 1,500 students and other Bay Area patriots turned out on Sproul Plaza to tell the anti-American crowd on campus that they could no longer dominate the discourse at the University, but would be challenged by the real Americans
Speakers included a former Vietnam veteran, who said that after 'Nam he vowed never to go to war, but now had changed his mind and would gladly reenlist if he wasn't too old, students sharing their disgust at the campus atmosphere including the head of the Berkeley Conservative Foundation, Kelso G. Barnett, and a history graduate student and former Navy fighter pilot who railed against the calls to "examine what America did to deserve this."
In a true sign of the unwillingness of the campus radicals to stand up and have their ideas be weighed on merit, as well as a sign of the weakness of their numbers, approximately 15-20 counterprotesters arrived carrying signs that advocated such things as killing children and American Muslims. They forced their way to the area behind the speaker, and refused to move or be quiet, instead attempting to draw a lot of the media toward them and distract from the true patriotic message coming alive from the students. Additionally, due to confusion, one of them made it up to the microphone and had fifteen seconds where he denounced the CIA and a litany of other American "ills." He was promptly moved aside.
Several Freepers, including American_Preservative, showed up and passed out literature advertising the website, as well as kindly giving me a small Gadsden flag, which I am very happy to have now. Sorry if I missed other people's Freep names, post them below!
All in all, it was a great rally. Sproul Plaza had not seen that much red, white, and blue since before the 1960s. At one point, we chanted "USA!" and the volume was so great that it echoed off of the buildings. It was, indeed, a great day.

Great work guys! Also, please help me Freep the polls at The Student Government Website and show Berkeley what America really thinks. They've glimpsed it today, but this is only the beginning. Let's ROLL!

WAY COOL!
I'm local and would love to make the next event if there is one. I'm sure others would come too if they knew about it. Is there a web site? or has the info been posted here and I've just missed it in the crush of too many emails to read?

Keep up the good work!!!
We are getting the message out that these 'war protesters' are pro- terrorists. As President Bush said You are either with US or with the terrorists.
Soon the media will have to give us the coverage they are now giving to them!

I had just vowed to never go back to that campus (having received an invitation to an upcoming reunion yesterday -- my sorority chapter's centennial celebration), but your report gives me hope that there is still some sanity on Telegraph Ave.
I shall reconsider, if you can rid the city of some of those anti-American Councilpersons before October, 2002!

Leave it to those smarties at my alma mater! They've fixed the poll so you can only vote once. I'll just have to go home and vote again from my other computer! It's not really cheating -- it'll be for my hubby who is also an "Old Blue".
