"Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle won a showdown with President Bush yesterday over judicial nominees "Well, if we can't get the little guys approved, with all the support the administration currently has, I don't hold much of a chance of influencing the Supreme court if new appointees are required.

This is what I have come to expect from the same people who tried to throw out the votes of men and women who defend their freedoms.

Now we know what bi-partisanship means to the Democrats.
It means doing it their way or else.
Of course, that's not really news.
Shalom.

"We're going to act in good faith," said Mr. Lott. "We're going to do what these times call for. We hope they will do the same when it comes to confirming federal judges."Time for a new minority leader.
What a spineless punk. "Good faith?" With Democrats?!? Moron.

Now we are seeing what happened with Jeffords switching and just how little Miller can be counted on!
Need to gear up for 2002 to take back the Senate and in the process get a new leader of the Republicans in the Senate!

Here's how yesterday went between the Republicans and the Democrats:
Republican wins: a signal that drilling in ANWAR will be passed by the Senate late this year or early next year ( via a Reuters story published on FR earlier today); probable delay of a new Farm Bill until spring despite Daschle wanting one sooner
Democrat wins: appropriations process un-blocked by Senate Republicans; judges continue to be held up
In D.C., it's all about deals. Ugly, but true.

Could someone out there give me a brief primer on "recess appointments"?
Would this solve the problem or only delay it?

Many had no staff. "There's no room for them," said Sen. Peter G. Fitzgerald, Illinois Republican. After nominating three Democrats all three US Attorney positions in Illinois, maybe no staff is what Fitzgerald needs...other than a new job.

No fire in the belly. Daschle has shown time and time again that he cares nothing for protocol, honesty and honor - yet Bush doesn't send out Cheney or Ari to call him on the carpet. You know damn well that war or no war Daschle will do whatever it takes to hanstring the administration.
I for one am sick of the administration treating Daschle like a mother who always gives into a spoiled child.

No spelunker in the world has done more caving than Trent Lott.

Senate Republicans abandoned their strategy of holding up spending bills to force more judicial confirmations after Mr. Daschle told the president in a White House meeting he would not budge on the issue. Whew! Thanks for the tough stand Senator Lott!

How about somehow insuring that Dashle (sp?) gets removed and voted in as dog catcher in some small Montana hamlet. Sorry Montana.
Or maybe we could encourage him to entertain the troops on the front line with his imitation of being a human being.
Or with his imitation of someone with a brain.
Or with his imitation of someone sane.
The realistically challenged can be fun to watch--from a distance--the smell, you know.

Bush will fight when he needs to.
Olson will be the next SCOTUS, and the Democrats will be screwed if the fight it.

"We're dealing with a new threat here," said Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott, Mississippi Republican. "There's a steep learning curve."Excuse # 521 ... and counting ....
Here seen in his last successful attempt in life - 'Ole Miss Cheerleader.
He should seriously consider a career change.

It's time for Bush to hold the Democreeps' pet constituencies hostage - as in no aid to Israel, no "urban aid," no National Endowment for the Arts, no National Public Radio - until all appointees are confirmed.
Bush has nothing to lose among these constituencies, anyhow; exit polls show he cannot win less of them in 2004 than in 2000 - because he got near-zero then.
