Similar incident in Atlanta today. Five men were detained after trying to retrieve videocameras they "allegedly" installed upon light poles in the downtown area. Alert citizens in the area called the police who were then able to catch them. Very few details available. Hope everyone is on the lookout. We are at WAR. As Peggy says, patience required on their part. If you aren't a bad guy, you will understand. I definitely understand the fear which caused internment during WWII (don't condone, but understand fear). But I don't understand why we are letting potential terrorists continue to come here and why some Syrian residents are allowed on a visa here to go to flight school. They must think we are just nuts, or arrogant, for our "open arms" policy.

I think there are a lot of "sleeper cells"--not a few, as we all hope, but a lot. I think some them are in Queens and Brooklyn and Manhattan, and in Jersey City and elsewhere in New Jersey . Boston, too. Maybe some are in the capital or Virginia or Maryland. Maybe some of those who delivered anthrax to the U.S. Capitol took a taxi.Maybe on the other hand they took the shuttle from LaGuardia. Certainly we know some cell or cells are in Florida.

Thanks for the article. I believe it contains information of which all Americans should be aware. I was concerned about churches last Sunday morning, because they are among the least protected buildings, inhabited by the most trusted people, in the country. Last Sunday this weighed heavily on my mind and St. Patrick's was one of the buildings I thought was vulnerable. Catholic churches tend to be large and this is the Church that officially fought against Islam throughout the crusades. It would be too easy to pull up a truck along side the building during services. We should all be on the alert. Peggy is absolutely right!

(During the attack on Pearl Harbor some supply NCO's refused to open ammunition lockers since 'regulations' required approval of an officer. Most were 'persuaded' to hand out ammo so that we could at least attempt to shoot down the Jap Zeroes. Terrorists: Profiles in sneaky cowardice.

In the past month I have evolved . . . to watchful potential warrior.

So have I. I've been really scrutinizing trucks as I'm on the expressway these past couple of weeks.

This morning as I got off at the usual exit to take my through-the-country route, a truck was waiting to enter the expressway. As I turned, it truck pulled through the intersection to begin its entry.

I noticed in the rear-view window that the the body of the truck had the all lettering painted over rather crudely. Thinking about the missing hazmat trailer in NJ, I turned around and got back on the expressway, hoping to catch up with it and get a license number.

I knew it wouldn't be that truck, but could have been another. I was back on the highway within 2 minutes of when I first saw it, and though I exceeded the speed limit (5 over, I didn't want a ticket!) hoping to catch up to it, did not find it for the half hour I stayed on the road. I'm guessing it must have exited soon after it entered the highway.

The suggestion of carrying a little camera notebook suggested by several is outstanding.

President Bush did say at his press conference, that if you see anything suspicious, to report it to the authorities. People should just do it and don't try to second-guess themselves and talk themselves out of reporting something for fear of looking foolish.

It's better to withstand a few hours of feeling foolish than to spend the rest of your life regretting not reporting something that turned out to be true.

I think some cell members may not be sure what their next move is. They're not sure of their next assignment. They haven't been told, or they haven't, perhaps, chosen. I think cell members have been going around taking home movies of potential targets. I suspect they've been downloading them into computers and shooting them off to Osama and his lieutenants in the caves.

As ever, Peggy Noonan is right on! In my townhouse development, a "single man" purchased a unit two years ago. He kept to himself and there was a lot of traffic (cars with young middle eastern males) that came and went during that time. He disappeared around 9/11. His car sat in the driveway with a flat tire. All the shades in the house are pulled down, except for one window where a cat sometimes appears. It wasn't until 2 weeks later that I learned his name was middle eastern.

Initially, I felt silly bringing this information to the state police and the FBI. What if ... he had gone away on vacation or business? Last week, the car was gone from the driveway. Last night, yet another car was parked there. Sometimes, we must follow instinct or gut feeling.

One of the other board members remembered the other day that when the middle eastern man moved in, he was most anxious to know if homeowners could install direct tv. The small satellite dish appeared on his roof within one week. He never spoke to anyone else ever again. Coincidence?
