I'm not sure I'd go with greedy communists,

Oh, yeah. Greedy is the word. China isn't so much communist anymore. The aim of the dictators and the military is really the same, economic spoils. Their children all come over here to get educated and to make some contacts. Then they return home and have daddy set them up in some lucrative concession, such as, making the bottles for all of the Pepsi sold on the mainland.

Capitalism is emerging quickly. The Chinese have been traders and dealmakers for 4,000 years, unlike the poor Russian peasants who've been serfs for 4,000 years. It's becoming a regular free-for-all in Red China, but without the protections of our rule of law, especially regarding anti-trust, extortion, and kickbacks.

Oh yeah. They're concerned about population decline. That's why they're executing people for Tax evasion, practicing religion and other such things.

LOL. They're still communists. They still occupy Tibet. They're not friendly and harmless.

Somewhere along the way people have been somewhat confused as to what communism, socialism, democracy, republics and capitalism are. If the capitalism that flourishes in the United States today can do so despite the rampant socialism that has basicly taken over here, then it can also flourish in China under communism.

China is still a centrally controlled government that has no intentions of relinquishing any of it's power. Those that ignore this do so at their own peril.

"China wants to follow the one-party, authoritarian path of economic development that made Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc."

Seems as though some of this list had a little help from us after WWII. As in the complete rebuilding of their nations at little or no cost to them. Granted, the Klintoons did everything they could to help China, but it was no Marshall Plan.

If having a two party system is so bad economically, then why are we still the world's leader? Even when the Demonrats were in power.

Welllllllllllll, Chung Guo means Center Kingdom. . . though there's some slight argument about the parameters and implications. . . most have felt the sense of them feeling they were the CENTER of THE Universe, of all existence still reigns. It almost seems genetic. People from the next neighborhood will get a higher price because they are considered less human--at least less worthy . . . in a sense.

If you're not a close relative or friend, you are ripe for being taken advantage of, used, abused, stepped on, etc. . . ."and only a fool wouldn't."

I suppose we could call them the Center of Arrogance. . . .murder your own kids and grand kids a la Tienanmen if necessary to prop up your power mongering and pride.

Mr Tang said: "This is Shanghai, a big city on Chinese soil. How dare you call us communist China. Communist China has become history. Such a term no longer exists."

This is going to seriously depress Bill and Hillary Clinton.
