Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
A common Texas occurance. Take the town Smithville, for example. The locals call it Smi'ville. The Fayetteville locals call their town Fedville.
Very heavy Czech and German population down that way. If I'm not mistaken, your area is heavy on German heritage, is it not? Perhaps some Czech, too?
Who says they are mutually exclusive?
Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Well, I do not run aimlessly, I do not box as one beating the air; but I pommel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)
...let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us (Hebrews 12:1b)
Now, now, allend. Let them be called what they wish to be called. Do you want the non-Catholic Christians to decide what to call you? They'd probably choose something like "IPMW" (Idolatrous Papist Mary Worshippers).
Well that's almost downright British. You ever see some place names in England and then see how they're pronounced. You can start with "Worcestershire."

Anybody with a strong back who wanted to dig in the mines or work in the mills. Lots of Irish, Italian, German, Polish, and Eastern European (collectively "hunkies")

I know that, but God did institute the animal blood sacrifice as a way to access His forgiveness. I am saying that all the sacrifices that God mandated for the Tabernacle, and later the Temple, pictured Christ and His redemptive work on the cross. If you're interested there is a good book on the subject of how the Tabernacle pictured the work of the Messiah by M. R. Dehaan called The Tabernacle.
I know that you do not hold to the book of Hebrews being inspired by God, but I do. The animal sacrifices all pointed to what Messiah would do on the cross. God forgave the sins of the OT (Tanakh) saints because the sacrifices they performed pointed Him to Christ, the true sacrifice.
"And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together." - Gen 22:8

See ya tomorrow everyone!
Let me apologize for unleashing Bud Selig on major league baseball. I did hear recently, though, that Selig wants to kill the DH. That would be a start. Interleague play might fade away over time, if it ceases to be a draw. I like the new unbalanced schedule.
To me, the most amazing bit of baseball trivia is that the Cincinnati Reds played their first game (under the name 'Red Stockings') on June 1, 1869.

Way to cool things down troublemaker.

Oy! I hope you didn't read what I posted about the Cardinals and the Bidwell clan. You might be tempted to the sin of despair.
And even more amazing is the fact that one of the best players to ever wear the red stockings will never be allowed into the Hall of Fame.
Comments from Becky/BigMack?
"W'sconsin" has its own unique accent as well. "Milwaukee" is "Mwaukee". A Wisconsin native will say something like "We're goin' up dere to da nort' woods an do a little ice fishin'".
Well, the Texans will be playing next year. If I were a fair weather fan, I could always jump ship and root for them.
Uh oh ...
You left off the "dontcha know?" part.
I think "eh?" would fit better.
Only if the person talking was a Canuck.
