The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

And, of course, they pray individually for each "soul" on their list. It is just Protestand propaganda which claims they throw all "intentions" in one big bucket and pray for the bucketfull.

Even if it were praying for a "bucketful" God still knows who's in the bucket.

I honestly didn't think of the media effect.

I could be way off base, but I would think the rise in non-denominationalism's popularity could be directly tied to an increase in media and media exposure of Christians. The dirty little secret at the top is that non-denominationalism means you (as the pastor or chief teacher) get to keep all the loot without any accountability.

I don't know. I kinda liked the one about you chucking your parachute at him on the way down the cliff. In response to this, I would say, "We've already got one. Issa very nice."

Yeah, but the parachute thing was so, how to put this?, lucid. I can't figure out what a bumble is and why it's supposed to have teeth. Dictionary.com is no help.

So do you feel that everyone who believes in God, even if they are in a different denomination is "saved". If not how do YOU know. Ok I know none of us can Know for sure who is and who isn't because we don't know their heart. But when you look at the different denomination's doctrines which would you say leads to salvation, and which doesn't. What do you consider to be heresy?

God knows whether we will make it or not, would he call someone who he already knows will fail, thereby condemning him to eternal Hell?

He knows that this person has chosen failure. God does not condemn us to Hell, we do. But that doesn't mean that He won't use our failure for the greater good. The failure of Judas is a good example here.

Predestination is a difficult subject. But the bible also teaches very clearly free will. To answer what I feel about Predetinaiton I use the verse Rom. 8:29. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the first-born among many brethren.

I believe every word of the bible is the inspired word of God and that each word (I can hear the arguments over translation stirring already:) is given in the order and context God wanted for a reason.

This verse says he foreknew those who were going to accept him, THEN he predestinated them to be the image of Christ, which is how we have to be to enter God's kingdom. We were predestined to AS CHRIST, not to be saved.

Will you be perfect when you are in Heaven? Or will you just go as you are and be "declared" perfect? Guilty, but acquitted, or actually truly innocent?

Yes, I will be perfect in Heaven.

I am "declared" perfect now in the sight of God because of what Jesus Christ did on Calvary.

Truly innocent. The book of Hebrews compares the multitudinous (is this a word?) animal sacrifices of Israel with the one-time sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

"[1]For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. [2]For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. [3]But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. [4]For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. [5]Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: [6]In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. [7]Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. [8]Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; [9]Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. [10]By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. [11]And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: [12]But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; [13] from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. [14]For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

So you see, the animal sacrifices never actually took away sin, they merely covered them until Jesus came and performed the perfect sacrifice which did not just cover sin but actually did away with the sin.

I hope that helps.

Sarah is teething, so if I am unusully short with someone who I am not ususally short with, please forgive me in advance. I will try to control myself, but sometimes certain thigns can set me off.

I'll second that. Ours has a cold and both ears are infected. Needless to say, we were sleepless in Allen, Texas last night (and the night before).

So do you feel that everyone who believes in God, even if they are in a different denomination is "saved".

Not eveyone who professes a "Belief" in Christ will be saved, but not everyone in every non-Catholic Church will be damned either. You will be judged on how well you abide by God's will.

If not how do YOU know. Ok I know none of us can Know for sure who is and who isn't because we don't know their heart. But when you look at the different denomination's doctrines which would you say leads to salvation, and which doesn't. What do you consider to be heresy?

Heresy is any teaching which deviates from the Catholic teaching. Those which are dangerous to folks are those which can create in people a false sense of security. These lead to complacency and can lead people to damnation. Other heresies cause people to believe in warped versions of God which can disturb the mind. I like to believe that God will have mercy on most folks, who are merely trying their best to understand what it is God expects of us. Folks who are stubborn in dismissing the True teaching of the Catholic Church, who like to misrepresent and mock it are in serious danger of having God likewise mock them.

So I have to ask, if we can squander it, just how infinite was it in the first place.

If we cannot, then why were we given the parable of the prodigal son?

BTW, glad to see you back. I hope your wife and child are doing better.

Thanks. After a visit to the pediatrician yesterday, things are starting to improve. Thanks for the prayer.

Thanks, for the Scripture readings.

No problem ... glad you're enjoying them. I was beginning to think no one was paying attention.

Ah that is where you are confused. Eternal life is the free gift and not the inheritance. Our inheritance is the reward we store up in heaven. Like the servants with the talents.

I'm intrigued. Do expand on this.

That is, was he acting freely or did God "program" him to betray Jesus?

Judas was created a "vessel of wrath, fitted to destruction" destined by thousand year old prophecy.

In what sense did God need to have a betrayer, or what is the point of this betrayal?

To fulfill the ancient prophecy. Many points can be made such as the choice of Judas for treasurer, thirty pieces of silver, love of money being the root of all evil. Judas also serves as an example of the discussion about crucifying the Lord afresh after partaking of the powers of the world to come. Judas was given the power of healing, providing a warning that even if someone could heal the sick isn't in itself proof that God is with them.

Couldn't the Romans have found Him without Judas?

Of course.

John 17

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

That is exactly how I understand predestination as well. God did not predestinate the who, but the way.

I brought this up with my pastor and he pointed me to Ecc 3:15 which says,

"That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past." - Ecc 3:15

What this means, he said, is that God is not only everywhere, but He is also everyWHEN. According to the Bible God does not change. Taking those two premises that He is everywhere and everywhen, and that He cannot change, He has always responded to us as saved or unsaved, depending upon His foreknowledge of us.

1. If we haven't exhausted the subject and if we can avoid discussing Calvinism too much, I think opinions on Judas could be interesting from everyone here. That is, was he acting freely or did God "program" him to betray Jesus? In what sense did God need to have a betrayer, or what is the point of this betrayal? Couldn't the Romans have found Him without Judas?

Judas was acting freely. Point of this betrayal was to fulfill scripture. The fulfillment of scripture is proof of who Jesus was. OT scripture is what Peter used on Pentecost to prove to the people that the man they crucified was Jesus the Messiah.

2. How do we know that we are being truly inspired by the Holy Spirit, as opposed to being decived by our own wishes, or even a false spirit(demon)?

One thing I have come to the conclusion about this question is (boy I'm fixing to start something here, but remember you asked:) If you can imagine you or anyone else being able to loose their salvation, you are NOT being led by the Spirit. I know without a doubt, 100%, that I am going to heaven. Why? Because I know JESUS is going to keep me saved. He can't loose MY salvation. 2 Tim. 2:12...for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

When will you be made perfect?

Purgatory pulls the teeth of the bumble in the eyes of the unknowing - they can't see the bumble just put blackout on his teeth after sharpening them...

This has to win Sentence of the Month. I defy anyone here to tell me what this means.

I have not read further on today’s post, so I have no idea of any other responses on this, so here is what I read from it, and I will admit it was not the typical, clear and concise, but it may have been getting late,LOL

He was using a bumble bee as a metaphor, as one having teeth to bite with rather then using it's stinger, It sharpens it's teeth but then blacks them out so it appears to look harmless, while is still capable of inflicting much damage.

God does provide interpreters when necessary.LOl

A better example may have been a Lion which appeared to have no teeth or claws, but was actually ready to devour it’s prey.

I had no problem with Havocs post, but I can't seem to think of a smart comeback to someone who claims he is defied.(^g^)
