Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
Not bad...You?
A little frustrated....can't seem to keep up with this darn thread...
Hey, I know what you're sayin'; I can't either. Everytime I check back in, there are about 150 new replies to read through-----
I know---once I finish reading them, I hardly have a minute to respond. And now I must get off to bed; can't stay up ALL night. Bummer.
Sleep well, then, Hopefulpilgrim.
Yeah, you too, handsome.
Shucks.
the808bass: No it doesn't.
Oh, okay. I would like to hear what you think it is saying. If I am wrong I will gladly admit it.
Thanks, in advance.

Paul was given the Spirit, just like you or me, to "lead him unto all truth." Yet he had to go and check with the Apostles to make sure he was "on the same page" as them? How can this be? Do you think the Holy Spirit could have erred in what He told Paul?

All of the Protestant Versions are available free RIGHT NOW.
The Vulgate and Douay-Rheims are out of print RIGHT NOW.
Not at all. I could easily buy either version. (Of course I get secret Catholic Book catalogs.) Besides I had already told you where to find the Douay online.

How many definitions of Sola Scriptura have you seen? Did you not post a pretty decent one yourself? Do you disagree with St. Augustine? Dou you choose one definition which you can attack?
MISREPRESENTATION - DELIBERATE MISREPRESENTATION
I'm sorry is that proof? Does this somehow explain how the principles of Sola Scriptura are being violated by vmatt?
Stay tuned for more.

Can't you just feel the love in this room?
Havoc, nobody, including me, has said that Mary is a perpetual virgin because if she wasn't it would affect the circumstance of Jesus' birth. In fact, I answered a direct question about this only two days ago. You are once again battling a figment of your imagination.
I pray that some day you acquire actual knowledge about the Catholic Church that you always rail against.
SD
The only church that vmatt ever said he was a part of was, guess what, the RC church and from his posts he hates all authority and never showed any signs that he had the slightest idea what sola scriptura even meant, let alone used it as a rule of faith. He is an anarchist, that is not, despite your straw man attempts, what sola scriptura teaches.
He abandoned Catholicisim. That means he does notabide by its authority. That was my point. Stay tuned and I will reveal to you exactly why I fault Sola Scriptura for this.

Havoc, I could have sworn that JHavard said that he does not sin at all.

Moved by their theories regarding the transmigration of souls, they are logically induced to abstain from eating the flesh of animals, lest they should unconsciously consume their parents or friends.
I realize being smart is a sin for you folks, but you can't even follow the simple ideas presented here. I'm assuming because you highlighted this portion that you think that this is what Catholics believe?
Perhaps you should try to find the nearest antecedent to the use of the word "they." Give up? It's "the adherents of Brahmanism or Buddhism."
For those of you in Rio Linda, those folks aren't Catholic.
Try again.

See toilet; Flush.
Still talkin' crap, I see. Do you have to try to be as offensive as possible? Does that help get your message across?

Tell 'em vmatt :)
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to once again defend my belief that the infinite Father created His only begotten Son who is equal and finite as in having a beginning. God bless and keep.
John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Matthew 22
44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
Philippians 2
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
John 5
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
I got it, I got it, I got it, why didn't someone tell me this sooner? "No meat and I can get to heaven." I haveeeeeeeeeeee seennnnnnnnnnn theeeeeeeeee lighttttttttttt.
You mock what you don't understand. Consider this, are not abstaining and fasting the direct opposite of the sin of gluttony? Wouldn't avoiding sin be good? Do you think Jesus was being silly when he fasted? Do you think imitating Jesus is a bad idea?

Matt. 20:10ff
Bass, I don't get it. The point of the parable, I thought, is that we should not be jealous of the mercy of God shown to others. Yeah it sucks to follow God all of your life while your brother boozes and womanizes. But if your brother comes to find God, even if on his death bed (end of the day in the parable) we should rejoice for his being saved, not grumble because we had to work all day.
So yes, there are folks whose lives are changed at the last moment, but that doesn't mean that salvation is a "one moment" event for all. In fact most of us have to spend some time working in the fields.

And the church councils of the Early Church did what? Play tiddlywinks? Just cause you voted a long time ago doesn't mean y'all didn't vote.
C'mon Bass. You know very well that the early councils were not general plebiscites. They were meetings of bishops, the successors to the Apostles. Not every Tom, Dick, and layman.

Thanks, Dave. I went there and found it. : )
You're welcome.

As to your current point, I think that Reggie and I both agree with your definition. I am trying to point out the fatal flaw in terms of final authority and where it is vested.

What a way to start the day! Thanks for the laugh, JH.

ALL: Good morning, everyone. Hey Dave ... good game last night, eh? Hedberg really came alive after the first period! Of course, I enjoyed last year's 8-1 drumming much more. GO STARS!

And the usual source for the meditation is not reliable today as they have last Thursday's meditation on line. In place of that, I'll throw this out for discussion (it may not amount to much, but maybe it will) ...
In the gospel reading, what is Jesus talking about when he says he will cause division?
