A school bus swerved and drove over the side of a bridge in Omaha, Nebraska about 2:00 this afternoon. The bus was carrying members of the Seward High School marching band. There are 32 reported injuries and and some fatalities, but those numbers have not been released. Please pray for the families involved. Thanks.

The weather here in Kansas is mid 70's and sunny. Absolutely beautiful. Just south of Nebraska, if it is that cold there, it would be almost as cold here.

I lived in Seward as a teenager--was a member of the marching band. Wonderful small town, great people. My prayers go out to all of them.

It's snowing here in Florida.... OMG, that's not snow, it's white powder...

To the people in Nebraska this is breaking news. To some it's the most importantant thing going on at this time. They are worried and are looking for information. FreeRepublic gives the fastest info around. Sometimes it might be wrong but when it's right, it's important to know.

You're the only one to mention terrorist here. This was an accident and we are worried about the children. Take your chicken little attitude elsewhere...I don't blame anybody for questioning whether or not this bit of news would have been posted if it weren't for the current situation.
And, of course, anyone who acts hypersensitive about "the children" vs all other human beings should be second-guessed anyway, since this is one of the liberals' most favored tactics for trying to shame others into subjugating themselves to the left's politlcal goals. It's one of the last things any conservative should say, because we play into their hands when we do.

you are Wrong sink... this meets the freerepublic definition for "breaking news" completely and in every way. It is CLEARLY important breaking news. As information comes in on this it may become even more critical... say if there were a bomb attached to the suspension or something.
FYI they ARE looking for such things in NYC... and other locations across the usa. Vigilance. The nation's leaders are calling for vigilance... and THIS even certainly fits that too.
we are naving no problems with bandwidth... but are enjoying a beta test of the new format... JIM will tell us when the bandwidth is so strained that we need to stop posting breaking news items like this, in the proper "breaking news" column.

A school bus crash is always an event which is meaningful to those of us with kids or grandkids, and in my opinion more deserving of breaking news status than as story about someone with anthrax antibodies in his bloodstream. I don't think FreeRepublic has become a war-issues-only forum.

If you have nothing worthwhile to add to the thread, please just stay the hell off of it.

No wonder band width is in short supply. And another shrill misuses of the term "bandwidth." If this keeps up, I may have to send you all to "bandwidth" school so you will know what you are talking about.

Article now says 3 were killed. My nephews are in Lincoln, but my prayers go out to these parents and families.

Well this got my attention, being a Nebraskan, mom and grandmom of band kids. No doubt you would disapprove of the huge majority of 'terrorism' related articles I don't even bother to look at- being saturated with the same thing being said over and over.
To: #3Fan
Nobody said a word about terrorism. Just people offering their prayers to the victims of a tragedy
Must you people infect every single thread with your callous non-chalance?
The nothing to see here's are really getting out of hand
(Our prayers go out to the victims in Nebraska as well, of course...)

Injured and dying children is not hype. I suggest you put your heart in order.

My thoughts are with the kids and their families.

I don't know what it is lately, but you can't find a single thread where SOMEONE isn't trying to shut down discussion by saying it's hype or irrelevent or not important or treason or a waste of bandwidth or....
How is it "conservative" to try to shut other people up all of the time? When tornadoes hit Cordell OK the thread filled up with smarta** remarks because at first, nobody was thinking, "Wow, a real tornado, or six, actually on the ground now tearing up people's houses."
Then there's the faction that wants only cookie-cutter opinions and ridicules anybody who has a "feeling" about anything, even dead kids. They're the ones who bring out the high rhetoric like "treason" and "Pro-terrorism" to describe anyone they disagree with. I don't know about you, but I believe their tactics were lifted straight out of the Clinton White House etiquette manual.
The Thought Gestapo is just getting a little too busy around here, and they have too often shut off and scared away useful comments and questions.
Thanks DearAbby for being on the better side of it.

God Bless them all - our marching band show was cancelled here in St. Louis because of the rain. I can't imagine how awful it must be for all of those parents and kids. Colorguard Instructor

Just returned from a marching band festival in Manhattan, Kansas...had to detour 40 miles our of our way because of a fatality accident on I-70. Prayed for all bands on their ways home. Thankfully, my son, just arrived safely behind us. I am heartbroken for the band kids and families.
Prayers from Free State High School, Lawrence, Kansas.
