Recent Changes @ FreeRepublic 12-Oct-2001

Making changes to the Self-Search function, and in particular, how the database is organized in relation to Self-Search.
Self-Searches should now be lightning quick and should span many months. The current index holds about 6 months of data (all I have available.)

JohnRob,
Maybe the ALL address could be "privileged" - any ALL post would go FIRST to a moderator who then being privileged could, if deemed of general import, post it to ALL.
Otherwise every yahoo and his brother will be posting to all.
Just trying to help. Sorry if this is not original - I don't have the strength to go through 370 posts looking for a similar idea.
You're doing good things - hang in there!

First off, ANY feature that is an "opt in", where you have to choose it to use it, is fine by me.
My perfect world would include having an "all" that is distinct and different from the self search, so that the two could be handled differently. If I want to see the things specific to my comments, I search on me (by the self search link). If I want to see the "all" comments, I choose to see them (previously, by searching articles+replies addressed to:"All").
Right now, for example, I get paged to this thread repeatedly, even though I asked the moderators to remove my post to this thread (which one of them did). I hoped that removing me from the thread would remove me from the all pings to the thread. It did not. That has to change at a minimum.
For a person who posts a lot (and I do, or at least did until recently) this "All" feature amounts to nuking our use of the self-search feature.

Was I supposed to ping! you, swheats? ...:)))
Admitting myself to be a failure to not have done so on this particular thread, I leave you

Oh LadyX don't go there. I'm aware of all the changes I need to know of. How many times have we all wished for the new features only to have them in our grasp and then they're gone.

Now we all need to see who got the most "pings" to ALL. Is there anyone in the triple digits, yet?
Sheesh! I wonder if there's a way to delete "cluster-F" posts.

I completely agree that an "All from FreeperName" is needed.
To: John Robinson
I like the updated format!
To: Hugh Akston
Thanks Hugh. I use the self search a lot so I'm with you on the need for a fix.

The lines separating the posts are darker/fatter than the text. This makes it more difficult to focus on the text.
