Making changes to the Self-Search function, and in particular, how the database is organized in relation to Self-Search.

Self-Searches should now be lightning quick and should span many months. The current index holds about 6 months of data (all I have available.)

If you enter "ALL" in the "to:" field, will it ping everyone on that particular thread you're on or all registered users?

My understanding from what I've read here is that it will ping everyone who has posted on that particular thread. And so, it's not a bad thing. As I said before, if someone doesn't want to get "pinged" -- simply "shut up"... :-)

John, I agree with the people currently stating their grievances about the "all" function -- maybe you could make it an option, so that:

if someone WANTS to be included in that "all" function, they could set their preference page FOR it. Otherwise, it remains OFF.

Also, here is another suggestion which I am sure some people here will not appreciate, because it concerns an effort to do what some conservatives here are so vehemently against, and that is: expanding your potential base of conservative voters.

I really think you could attract MORE people here if you had a preference page to turn all the advertising banners ON -- and, otherwise, the banners automatically stay OFF.

I believe this would attract more diverse people here who may want to learn more about conservative positions, without feeling like they are bombarded with the advertising. And, the people who like the ads can always keep their preference page set to ON.

Just a polite suggestion, and I already know some people will hate it because they'll say: "Why focus on something like "expand" the base in an election year?"

And, I can't argue with people like that.

I agree...I dont like the all feature..I currently have a bunch on my now limited self search..BTW it would be nice to be able to edit the self search..(delete after you have read or responded) Some I like to keep for future reference..but like this thread I am not interested :>))

I am really going to miss Missisipiman(sp LOL) on my self search. /NOT! Not that he's a bad guy, but sometimes before coffee i am not sure if he "is" me or if I "is" him.

I would suggest the "all" feature be kept. It's a fantastic tool. I would also suggest that an option be created under our profiles so that we can turn that feature off if we don't want to be pinged.

Once again John, you and Jim are to be commended for improving what I thought was pretty darn near perfect already.
