And you have a lot to learn about libertarian and atheist thought if you assume such children would
feel obligated to follow anything but their own conscience.

My preference would be that if they chose to be theists, they would be Calvinists.

Interesting statistic:
Overwhelming odds show that if your parents didn't have any children, you won't either.

I've no problem with Bible-thumping Objectivist Calvinist libertarians...
Perhaps you do.

What a hoot! The OPPOSITE of what is said here is true and backed up by MULTIPLE studies by credible people. Yeah, even leftist coughed up the proper results on this topic.

This is an interesting study, and one which is very easy to believe because it's really intuitive.
The amount of work a mother does throughout her lifetime is almost unimaginable, and the concomitant stress and wear and tear is probably almost immeasureable. Nothing comes close in importance to the role of mother, or father, for that matter. But it's a hell of a struggle from what I've witnessed.
I don't have any children, and have never really felt shortchanged because of it; it was my decision.
And as far as worrying about being in an old folks home; I'm not. Every single one of my married friends parents, who are dependent for care, are under the ultimate care of someone other than their child. Having children isn't a guarantee of filial (sp?) devotion at all. And even though I don't have any kids, my parents will never see the inside of a nursing home; I don't care how well it's run. That's a promise I made to myself the first time I ever visited one. It will be me that places hot compresses on my mother's brow, and brushes her hair, and tends to her wounds; not some hired stranger.

Might be something to this.
I'm 37 (male), never married, no kids, excellent career progression, and I hardly ever get sick - one cold a year at most.
One's emotional dependents can become very physically debilitating. If one does not surround oneself with clingy people, one's health should turn out vastly better.

Or better yet, lets have some screaming idiots crapping on my lap, eating all my food, and keeping me from fun beer sessions with my friends...no thanks.

Todays research found evidence to suggest that eliminating stress was a precursor for a healthy old age.
Oh oh.

To: lavaroise
he he he, sure, and then when you get old and sick, don't get surprized if no one is there when they try to prematurely pull the plug on you.ROFLOL

I am very glad I have children. Heck, if I hadnt of had them, that "Bill Cosby,Himself" video wouldnt have been nearly as hilarious!

Yes, parenting can be very difficult and physically demanding. But you've completely ignored the whole "spiritual" side of things. I'm not meaning religion exactly, but love and connectedness. If prayer can make any difference at all, and many say it can, why couldn't these strong, positive emotions also make a difference?

My husband once heard about a study which said that men who kiss their wives goodbye live longer.
"Extend my life...gimme a kiss" is often heard in my house :)
