If this rig has really been hijacked, I doubt that they'll leave the numbers unaltered.

Stealing the truck is only half the battle — How do you manage to put the truck in the right place to pick up a truly hazardous shipment? A lot of the stuff these trucks carry isn't all that dangerous.

Seems to me that you've have to be pretty choosy about which load of material you sent the truck out to receive. Also, where do you find a driver that wouldn't arouse any suspicions when he goes to sign for the load?

what was the cargo? Any? Why are we only just now being informed of this? Is it because of the missing plane?

Potential problem- if the plane was diverted to a secondary strip maybe it could be disassembled and brought into the states on a cargo ship. Whereby it could then be used to carry out a chemical or biological attack.

I hope they have plenty of customs agents working overtime!

This truck has been missing since the 14th. You would have thought this would have been blasted all over the national news. You would think it would have been all over the news on the 15th! They could have had millions of people looking for a Kenworth truck. You know, the public would be more than happy to keep their eyes open! This story was just mentioned on Art Bell's program a couple minutes ago. He didn't give the truck numbers or identify the specific Gainesville station.

Heard the Art Bell broadcast. (Lots of truckers and cops listen to the program.) The report came from a cop in Texas responsible for the I-10 corridor. He called Bell to confirm that a report had been given to LEOs to be on the lookout for a 40 ft. rental truck that had been rented by two middle-Eatern men that has not been returned. They believe the decals may be removed from the truck. The cop said he was confirming the public report of suspicions that terrorists may be travelling down the Pacific Coast Highway in CA enroute to the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant in a large truck. From what I heard, this is a separate concern from the missing Hazmat truck.

I drove from Tampa up I-75 and west on I-10 through Pensacola over the weekend. There were state troopers at every rest area, and they had a location where their portable sign issued a warning for every rental truck and rental trailer to pull over. I had never seen such tight security. This makes more sense now.
