We were on the Oregon Coast when this terrible mass murder happened.
We didn't get back home until the evening of 9/12/2001. I'm now reading some of the replies/posts that I didn't read that week.
They are incredible!
I'm responding to some of the people who posted some incredible insight just minutes or hours after the WTC were hit.
With Free Republic, that is a great way to "recycle this news!"
As you posted: We must never forget!
To: dubyagee
Me too. I panicked momemtarily thinking it was happening all over again today, and fired off my big Bump List.
That's what the deleted message was. ROFL! *WHEW*
Let's Roll!

I sure am glad I'm not the only one...8 * )

Oh my word! I thought it was for today! Okay... disclaimer on the 9/11 threads. My heart was beating so fast, I think I went aerobic!

No kidding, I was in Cannon Beach & Nehalem/Manzaneta on Sept 10th. It was my first date with my soon to be wife.

That scared the bejeebers out of me, too.

We had checked in on the 9th into the Westin Salishan. It was our 40th anniversary, and we planned on 5-7 nights there. We had spent 5 days in Gold Beach and drove up on the 9th and checked into the Salishan. We did the tourist things in Depot Bay on the 10th and had dinner, a walk on the beach and went to bed early, which is why I was up early on the 11th.
That drive down the Oregon Coast was really surreal on 9/11 last year. As you know that drive south on 101, is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. We would catch ourselves looking some of the awesome scenery and then both of us getting tears in our eyes when the nightmare of the day came back. We knew that thousands of Americans that day would never see another coastal day or drive or just be with their loved ones.
So when are you getting married?
To: Grampa Dave
Hi, Gramps! The headline scared me!
On 9-11, I was in Mississippi, just 15 minutes away from going to the airport to return to Oregon. What was to have been a 4 day weekend turned into a 10 day long vacation! Believe me, I almost rented a car to drive home, but hubby wouldn't let me make the trip. ;o(
The flight home was surreal. Very few passengers on the planes, and the airports (especially DFW) seemed empty. Some businesses at DFW had already closed shop...permently. While the flight attendants were pleasant, the pilots looked as though they hadn't slept in weeks! And, bless their hearts, they profusly thanked us for flying with them. BTW, I flew on American, so it was understandable that they were jumpy.

Can we change the title on this thread to indicate that it's an older thread and not a current event?

Sorry, that I scared all of you with my replies today to old replies on 9/11 threads.
This terror and nightmare will never leave most of us.
It will be best for all of us to read the dates of what is being replied to.

permently = permanently
Sheesh...

Oh! My!
Younhad me giong for a moment, there!
I even posted to Rintense about thi as if it were happening today!
It was a year ago! PHEW!!
That'll teach me to look at dates! LOL!!
But, really, I think it is good to be reminded of this terror because if we go back to our old , sleepy complacency, then this is sure to repeat itself!

Don't apologize, to me anyway. Like I said, it did scare me, but it also serves to wake us up from our 'comfort zones.' It can happen here and it will happen here again if we don't take preventative measures. In fact, I will go so far as to thank you, Grampa Dave. 8 * )

Good Lord, you had me playing "duck and cover" here in NYC. Now where did I put those nitro pills?
To: JediGirl
Why don't the people on the plane attack the hijacker? They should know by now what they have to do.

I don't think this headline is so bad. Since all of the TV stations will be sanitizing what happened on 9-11, for me it served as a reminder of the horror I felt on that terrible day.
I don't want to ever forget how I felt on September 11, 2001.

Our mayor and members of the city council were in DC and were to go to the House that day for meetings.
They were in a motel just outside of DC near the Pentagon.
They had to rent a van to get home and couldn't rent one for about a day.
Another friend was in Indiana, and he didn't get home until 5 days later.
Our next door neighbors were in London and were to have flown home on 9/12, and they didn't get home for 10 days.
Another friend was on a plane returing home from England when the mass murders of 9/11 happened. Their plane was scheduled to land in JFK mid morning on 9/11. They were diverted to Newfoundland. She remembers looking out her window and watching an American fighter jet flying along side. It was replaced by two Canadian jets at the border.
They knew nothing about what had happened until after they had deboarded and were herded into a lobby. Then they were told. One of her friends lost a family member in the WTC. She still has nightmares.
