Emphysema is a terrible and frightening disease for the vics. My step-mother died of it. My neighbor smoked for years and had the disease, lived tied to an oxygen machine and panicked in great fear if he felt himself losing his ability to breath. He died last month in agony. Miserable way to die!

Miserable way to die!

What neat, tidy and stress-free way to die do you envision for yourself? What with all the hand-wringing, worrying and all?

Guaranteed better than smokers, or just a crap shoot?

I am SO sorry for you.  However, in all the days of my life, I have never ever known anyone with emphysema.  Not one.  And my family smoke and most of my friends.  Never ever in my life have I ever run across anyone with emphysema!

I had two major cancer surgery's in my life followed by radio active iodine treatments for 5 years, then for my other cancer, I had 6 months of chemo.  Even when I was in the hospital for treatment, NONE of the other patients had emphysema.

Where the hell do you LIVE?

Oh yes.........both times I had two teams of Doctors.  They ask me if I smoked and how much.  Each time, each team told me that my cancer was NOT caused by smoking!

I'M A SURVIVOR! AND I STILL ENJOY SMOKING!

(PS:  Had my yearly physical two weeks ago.  My lungs are clear as a bell!)

Lots of anecdotal statements from you but no indication of what you would propose to do about the issue. Legislate away individuals' ability to engage in behaviors that can harm themselves? Or acknowledge the right to liberty?
