Yet another "Organized Crime Empowerment Act". Nannyism knows no bounds.

Why don't these dolts just make tobacco illegal and get it over with?

"It's just a happy coincidence that Philip Morris, one of the bill's main backers, does not manufacture cigarettes with any of the prohibited flavors—although it does make menthol cigarettes, which are specifically exempted from the ban."

More actions to use the government to eliminate competition. This company is evil!

Black,no sugar is the only way to drink coffee,IMHO,but if companies want to jazz it up,so what!

I am so sick of the government trying to keep us all safe.

When on earth did this all start? Adults were adults, and adults took care of the kids, and everything was just fine for years.

Madness!

Both companies insist their specially flavored varieties (which cost substantially more than the regular versions) are aimed at adult smokers. Tellingly, anti-smoking activists say that doesn't matter, because teenagers aspire to be like the young adults the cigarette makers are targeting.

Gee, I thought the raising of tobacco taxes to confiscatory levels was justified because it priced cigarettes out of the reach of "the children."

Now, it doesn't matter.

Here's the bar, no here's the bar, no, no, it's over here!

"Anti=tobacco activists" = control freaks and otherwise unemployables.

OK, this really irks me. I'm a pack a day clove cigarette smoker. Nothing else will do. Regular & menthol cigs = Yucky according to my taste buds. I'm an adult. It's already illegal for minors to buy clove cigarettes, so just enforce the current freaking laws and leave me the h3ll alone!

This bill isn't "for the children" (it's very telling that a tobacco state politician is pushing for this). Clove cigarettes (the most popular of flavored cigs) are all imported from Indonesia. So... domestic tobacco companies like PM have everything to gain and nothing to lose from the enactment of this legislation. They've been attacking the clove market for years and now hope to use the current hysteria of the nannynazis to drive the final nail in the coffin.

Then... the politicians can pat themselves on the back for "protecting the children". The niconazis can claim a victory, believing that they've somehow advanced into "slippery slope" territory. And PM can bury a competitor. Everyone wins. Except me, and my fellow clove smokers. And since we're such a small minority subset of the smoking class, I'm not sure how much support we'll get from our fellow smokers.

I don't suppose I could rally you guys by saying: First they came for the clove smokers, but I didn't say anything because I didn't smoke cloves, then they came after the menthol smokers, but (blah blah blah)... and then they finally came after the ultra light ultra low tar smokers and there was no one left to speak up for me (because they'd all become annoying, self-righteous ex-smokers). ;-)

The point of the word family is to assure you that DeWine et al. have the best of intentions.

As portrayed graphically in George Orwell's "1984".
