[history]
The Ford auto plant in Hazelwood started this week to restrict where its 2,500 workers can smoke on the job, ending the decades-long practice of allowing workers to light up almost anywhere.
The change was prompted by pressure from state officials and anti-smoking groups, who claimed the Ford policy violated Missouri's Clean Indoor Air law.

I'm really tired of people telling me I stink.
Apparently not enough to actually stop reeking near people, though.

Calm down.
Light up.
Blow a smoke ring and listen up.
All I ask of smokers is to have a little respect for me and mine.
I don't think that the government should should be butting (pun) into smoking issues. I think its a free choice issue. I DO think that all the info about cigs, good and bad, should put right up front and people allowed to make their choice with their $.
I do feel that smoking causes health problems, but so does overeating, too many beers and (this just cracks me up!) watching Oprah...(yes, its true, sports fans, in a recent medical study, over twice as many Oprah watchers reported excessive stress in their lives as non-Oprah watchers)
The man who started the running for fitness movement here in the US dropped dead in his 40's, from a heart attack no less.
Hey, it's ok by me, and I DO agree with your views. All I ask for is a little space and some respect. Same as the rest of you.

They smell like cigarettes, just like I do when I go have one. You think they don't? Or you just want to throw good patriots who smoke at me like that somehow means the smell is no longer unpleasant?
To: *all
And you hater of smokers. You hate these guys too?

I'm actually a lover and not a fighter, but when someone rubs my fur the wrong way, LOOK OUT! I have VERY sharp claws. But I can be very sweet and I can purr a lot, believe me.
I do realize that there are a lot of people who hate smoke....hate smokers. But listen. We don't want the whole world. We just want some of the places where we can go, have a great meal and enjoy a cigarette with our beverage.
This SHOULD BE LEFT UP THE TO BUSINESS OWNERS AND NOT THE LAWMAKERS AND THE ANTI-SMOKERS TRYING TO DICTATE TO EVERYONE HOW WE ARE TO LIVE OUR LIVES.
I hope you understand where we are coming from. It is just WRONG for the government to take away the rights of some poor sap who was forced to close his doors because of being forced to go smoke free. It's NOT right!

I'm just saying that the military are fighting for and dying for America to remain FREE. But while they are doing THAT, we still have lawmakers over here bending over to the anti-smokers to take AWAY the rights of hard working people in the food service industry. Our lawmakers are talking out of both sides of their mouths. It disgusts me.

How in the heck pro- smoking ever get to be a CONSERVATIVE cause is beyond me. Indeed. I am pro- private property rights and consequently I think business owners ought to be free to set smoking policy on their own. Personally, I deem smoking unpleasant & self-destructive, so I recommend against doing it. But there are some around here (on this thread) who are not happy with any human being on the planet thinking less of them -- they demand overt *approval* for their smoking. Sort of like the homosexuals that don't really want just tolerance from society, they want heart applause for their actions.

Good Lord, woman! You have some issues. I have met plenty of anti-smoking nazis in my time, but I do believe you are the very first pro-smoking nazi I have ever run into.
In reading this thread, I haven't seen any posts expressing hate for smokers themselves, but your posts are dripping with vile rancor at those that have the temerity to express their dislike of the odor created by cigarette smoke.

Apparently not enough to actually stop reeking near people, though. Do you realize that Joe is a super clean guy. I have seen his picture. He smokes but I bet he smells heavenly with the smell of tobacco and after shave. To me, a clean smelling man, with a hint of tobacco smoke and after shave is a true turn on. And no..........I have NEVER kissed a smoking man who tasted like an ashtray! You haven't lived much, have you.

Well, now at least you have settled down enough to make some sense.
I agree and don't want smoke-free bars to become law where I live. But that is a far cry from smoking being the great elixir of health, beauty and joy for everyone that you ranted about to a guy that just quit smoking and knows better.
To: Sloth

Your disgusting and you just showed your true self lumping adults who choose to smoke a legal product in with homosexuals. Just where do you get off. And just what are YOU smoking to come up with junk like this!

In reading this thread, I haven't seen any posts expressing hate for smokers themselves, but your posts are dripping with vile rancor at those that have the temerity to express their dislike of the odor created by cigarette smoke. I have all the respect in the world for people who do not want to be around smokers. That is fine. Most of my friends smoke and those that don't could care less.
But then I come into Free Republic (FREE>) and I have to put up with guff from anti smokers in here about how foul I smell, and how they don't want to be around me, and how my house stinks and my clothes stink and you think I should just here and AGREE WITH THEM? Well, you have another thought coming my friend.
I have NO desire to be around ANYONE in here that resents me because I smoke. And I shall NEVER meet them. My grip is basically that smoking and non smoking should be left up to the business owners and NOT THE GOVERNMENT.
I am sick and tired of being attacked in here by people who do not even know me.
Sometimes I feel like I fell into the DemocRAT PIT OF HELL!
