The Ford auto plant in Hazelwood started this week to restrict where its 2,500 workers can smoke on the job, ending the decades-long practice of allowing workers to light up almost anywhere.

The change was prompted by pressure from state officials and anti-smoking groups, who claimed the Ford policy violated Missouri's Clean Indoor Air law.

The GM plant in Buffalo did this a few yeas ago. (because of state laws)

It is so bad in the Socialist Peoples State of NY .. has gotten so bad that in most cases people can not even go to their car in the parking lots to smoke..

Your disgusting and you just showed your true self lumping adults who choose to smoke a legal product in with homosexuals.

In most states, homosexual conduct is legal (SCOTUS essentially says it is everywhere), leaving the choice up to the individual. That does not mean I have to applaud that choice. Or yours.

Honestly, you do come off as an addicted champion of bad and unhealthy habits, though, even though you may be a very sweet person.

A person we know has started his permit renewal process. 8 permits, just for the jukebox. For instance, playing on Sunday, $175.00/year. Of course, we wonder why Saturday, gets a pass. Those Jews again.......

"It means nothin' to me to whoop a man's ass."

He obviously hasn’t done much wooping. If he had, he would of experienced a number of common wooping events. For instance, the "Why won't he go down?" phenomenon. This is were one misjudges the ability of a subject to take a beating. Then there is the "Who knew he had friends?" problem. This particular problem can be quite nasty, although slipping into unconsciousness isn’t in and of itself painful. Lastly, even a dying rabbit can get his licks in cause a tooth to be lost, ear to be ripped.

Back door prohibition roaring down the tracks. I think our mutual friend would make a fine speakeasy proprieter.

Wait until they think up "home permits".

STPP (Stir the Pot Press) -New York - Columbia University researchers today released a long term study on the amounts lost to the State of New York when people are allowed to engage in any social activity in their so-called "homes". Dr. Ima Tyrant, PHD(Piled High and Deep) said in a press release...

Ford owns the plant, they can dictate the rules. Thats called property rights.

I wish that were true. I especially wish that were true for restaraunts and bars as well.

If there is a law against smoking in the workplace - obey it.

If the laws go too far - change them.

(ps I'm still waiting for some pix of your cobra to appear on your profile page) :)

I just made the comment that I quit and I think that the smell that is left behind by smoking doesn't smell very good.

I quit 1 year, 13 days, 21 hours, and 30 minutes ago after smoking 2-3 packs a day for 40 years. I STILL MISS IT! Every minute of every day. Every night I dream of taking that first drag in the morning. I find the smell of smokers and SHS to me more a temptation than an annoyance, and will avoid them whenever possible.

As a conservative, I think gub'mint ought to butt out. On private property or in private businesses the owners should have the choice. I will gladly vote with my feet. In public areas, I consider it tit-for-tat --- you come 'round me and smoke, I'm gonna come 'round you and fart.

"Rossie Judd, an eight-year veteran on the plant, claimed that workers smoking near her on the floor aggravated her asthma, making it at times impossible to breathe."

Sure, the industrial chemicals used in the assembly process have no effect on her asthma!

"Judd filed an unfair labor practice charge and a disability complaint with two federal agencies. Both are pending."

Yep, rather than ask her fellow worker to smoke in another area and work out a way to cover them during a break, she turns to daddy government to protect her. Weakling!

Why is the headline and article focusing on Ford, then the example used is from Chrysler? Seems to be that Judd is the only example that they could find out of the big 3!

"The 'no smoking in public places' regulation is one that i can live with ...perfectly."

What is your definition of public places. Does private property constitute a public place that merits government interference of its use or should a private property owner be allowed to make the decision by themself?

"How in the heck pro- smoking ever get to be a CONSERVATIVE cause is beyond me."

Obviously you have no concept of private property rights, if so you would realize it isn't a pro-smoking agenda, it is a private property rights agenda.

"Screw smoker's rights. I have the right to breath clean air and not be engulfed with a known carcinogen. If some dumb son-of-a-bitch wants to endanger his life and the life of his family in their own home, so be it, but don't try and light a "cancer-stick" around me. It means nothin' to me to whoop a man's ass."

You also have the right to not set foot on private property that allows smoking. If you support a ban legislated by the government, then you would also support a ban in private homes because you might have to come to the smokers home some day!

I do. As a part owner of the company I was not consulted in this decision. Generally, property use issues are voted on annually, and this wasn't on the ballot this year!
