You have a point. It's a wonder my poems ever get here ;-) Well, I'm glad they do, they're like all the other contributions made by those who drop in daily to say hi, an important part of the Foxhole.

I'll bet my snowbanks are higher than your snowbanks ;-).No bet. We got warm air from the southwest on Monday and it warmed up to 50.

We could have used some of that snow here in Mn., just cold no snow :-(. It's been years since we've had a real winter. But then I've been accused of being sick for liking winter.

Thoughts on the Common Soldier
Reminiscences of Camp Cheatham, 1861:
A private soldier is but an automaton, a machine that works by the command of a good, bad, or indifferent engineer, and is presumed to know nothing of all these great events. His business is to load and shoot, stand picket, videt, etc., while the officers sleep, or perhaps die on the field of battle and glory, and his obituary and epitaph but "one" remembered among the slain, but to what company, regiment, brigade or corps he belongs, there is no account; he is soon forgotten. (p. 22)
Thanks...MUD

Hi FRiends!
Nope, I didn't get selected to be on a jury today either. One of the 12 potential jurors was dismissed for cause because she worked with the arresting deputy and felt she could not be impartial. So, I was the first alternate and went through the voire dire process. From the 12, the attorneys selected six for the jury. I knew the prosecutor so there was no way the defendant's attorney was going to allow me, even though I told him I could be impartial.
Sigh! Beginning to get a complex....
But the good news is I'm DONE!!! Don't have to go back this week. The bad news is I have to prepare for a speech for my stinkin' square-filler English class. But the good news is, after it, I AM DONE with this quarter AND my web site design program!! WoooooHooooo! But the bad news is, I start another working on CIW certification and taking some classes in Visual Communications. The good news is that those classes will be more interesting than programming! Ick!
Whew, I'm tired. Need a nap now. See y'all later.

Haven't read this one for nigh onto 20 years, but I've thought about it every once in a while.
Great book.
To: an amused spectator
I haven't read this one. I tend to read about a particular battle or campaign rather than personal accounts.

As I recall, the Civil War PBS series used quite a few Sam Watkins quotes.
