If you remember, we posted a document sent in by a new source who said it was a step-by-step instruction sheet that Scientology’s “registrars” were given, explaining to them how to lie to Chase credit card operators in order to open up new credit card accounts for cash-poor Scientology members, and then max out those cards with Scientology charges in order to saddle members with huge debts. The “Chase Wave” involved opening up a series of different Chase cards in order to obtain a huge zero-interest credit limit. Scientology was the beneficiary, and our source said the scam was literally bankrupting Scientologists and had led to Chase blacklisting the church.
After we posted that document, two former Scientologists who recently left the organization, Mark Fladd and George McAlpine, both came forward on the record, using their full names, and said they had been subjected to the Chase Wave (Fladd) and witnessed the Chase blacklisting (McAlpine).
Now, yet another recent defector is willing to put his name forward and confirm that he was subjected to a similar credit card scheme while a member of Scientology.
“Once they figured out I had Navy Federal and good credit, they pressured me in a very unfair way to max out my credit card and take a personal loan that I am now defaulted on, as I went way over my debt to income ratio,” Adam says.
Hang on, we said. They were doing the Chase Wave to you on your Navy Federal card?
Navy Federal is the largest credit union in the country, serving some 10 million veterans and their families.

I don't doubt they also had a LOT of dirt on the Clintons when President Peroni ordered they get tax exempt status as a legitimate religion. At least that's what I recall lo these many years later.
Didn't do me a bit of good, IRS consistently denied my attempts to write off my 'donations', and didn't give a favorable ruling to that organization until after I had left.

I’m not ashamed to admit they got some of my money and I didn’t really understand at the time what they were. And they WILL lie right to your face. And a lot of law enforcement are okay with them because Alcoholics Anonymous and huge donations to police departments and stuff like that. How much money do YOU donate to your local police? Is it tens of thousands of dollars at a time? If not, your complaints probably won’t compete with scientology’s complaints about you if you upset them by, you know, telling anyone the truth about them.
It was just a few hundred bucks, fortunately, and lesson learned - actually I played a little joke on the lady who scammed me and wow, did she ever get angry. (No one got killed, by the way. I just took advantage of one of her expressed vulnerabilities. You get heavily involved in scientology first by allowing them to scam you and you act like you’re ok with it or didn’t notice; if you’re still hanging around after they bankrupt you, then they teach you how to bankrupt others. Discipleship.)
And that’s how I found out what they do to people who pi$$ them off. Years of stalking and harassment, threats, libel, etc. I did get a lot of education for those few hundred bucks and I may live to see the end of Scientology, which I find exciting, because I will have helped.
I can understand perfectly why people don’t say more about the scam aspect of scientology now. And of course there’s blackmail, if you don’t fall for the scam.
I did not become associated with this lady via an interest in Scientology and when I first contacted her - she was offering another type of assistance through ads in the local news - she seemed to know stuff about me already. She told me, for example, that it was a well-known fact (”Everyone knows it!”) that the guys that I’d been in a band with were trying to kill me.
I didn’t necessarily believe that, but I wondered how she knew so much. I thought it was a mark of professionalism, I guess? (I’m not saying I was smart or responsible in doing this; I’m not proud of it but the point I want to make is I didn’t want anything to do with Scientology and had no interest in it whatsoever, and ended up getting scammed by one of them. Also, I ended up learning how she knew stuff about me when I had never met her before - they get dirt on you via various means at their disposal to blackmail you, like I said, if you don’t fall for the scam. That was an interesting ride. They did some damage, but my damage to them, when all the dust has settled, will end up having been a lot worse.) #ScientologyDown

Haha, true enough - but unless you have a huge, billion-dollar organization devoted to the scam, with lots of lawyers, to watch your back, you’ll probably go to jail pretty quick. Just think: If you, by yourself, started doing the credit card scam described herein and got just four or five suckers to fall for it, you wouldn’t have even five minutes to enjoy your ill-gotten gains before you went to jail, if the bank itself didn’t send a couple of goons to divest you of your car or other property, if not break your kneecaps.
Chase Bank blacklisted them. That was the “consequence” for them stealing millions.
At least the lesson did not cost you that much.
I was blessed with a grandmother who told the teenage me that “everybody lies about everything”, “trust no one”.
She called it—best advice I ever got.
I don’t believe a word anyone says until I have watched them prove their integrity for at least ten years.
It probably would apply. But did the government have the will to apply it? No.
I have on occasion loaned $20 to an iffy acquaintance.
If I never saw them again, it was money well spent!

No, individual posts can be repeated on multiple threads.
Duplicate articles/threads are often deleted, there seems to be a rule that an article can survive being posted again after 8 hours, but sometimes if people are still commenting on the first one a repeated thread will be nuked.
The idea is to have a single conversation on, say, The Aardvark Crisis In South Africa, rather than several disjointed ones.

That would be great if they did another series. I wish they would. I remember these episodes - thanks. I thought I remembered the series ending with the Clearwater revelations. Unbelievable what they’ve gotten away with in Clearwater. I guess spreading their ill gotten gains around helped grease the palms of city officials. I remember Leah sitting on a park bench and a cop telling her she wasn’t allowed to sit there. Feisty gal!!! She dared him to arrest her as I recall.
