It was a historic moment in New Mexico Thursday as 13 veterans were given a proper military burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
It's the start of New Mexico's Forgotten Heroes program.
The veterans died in the past three years, but were never claimed by family so their cremated remains sat on shelves in Bernalillo County.
A woman with a national movement called the Missing in America Project brought this to the attention of county and state officials.

Quite the Lady! Thank God we still have people like her.
God bless her and may the Veterans Rest in Peace.
NM list PING!
(The NM list is available on my FR homepage for anyone to use. Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
My Father-in-law and his wife are buried together there.
RIP, dear ones.
Bump and Ping.
Makes me sad to think there would be “unclaimed” veterans. Really sad. They deserve better. This is a great tribute.
Thank you and God bless you Christie Boyer.
RIP and God bless you and thank you, good souls.

Thread bump.
My uncle Charles Horne of the 90th Squadron Jolly Rogers is buried there:

Too many people have no close family. No one even knows they are gone. Everyone deserves a decent funeral.
RIP
13 Fallen Heroes
I’m pretty sure my sister’s ex-husband is buried there. At any rate, God bless this lady for her work. I wish all Vets to rest in peace and it makes me sad that any would not have family who would step forward or be there for them at the end of their lives, but I know this must happen to many people.
I was my ultimate pleasure to be able to accomplish this, for every Veteran. I am one stubborn woman, raised on the simplistic basic principle that you know whats right and you know whats wrong. The last thing that I thought that I would ever do in my lifetime was change the outcome of someone elses history. Your posts continue to bring on my tears. Thank you all.
We thank you, Christie! It's an honor to be able to say it to you directly. Here at Free Republic we have a heart for Veterans.
Thanks for signing in to express your thanks.
Take care and God bless!

Thank YOU Christie.
May God richly bless you.
This is so sad. Does the community somehow find out that these burials are taking place and no one is there to mourn? I would go in a heartbeat and be present for the person who gave his or her life for our country.
